Hubby and I are going on a fantastic trip in December -- two weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia, including a week-long cruise down the Mekong River, followed by a four-day visit with our Marine in Japan. Packing is going to be challenging because I want to limit it to one big suitcase plus a carry-on, but I have to pack for both cold weather (in Japan and Hanoi) and hot weather (in Cambodia and South Vietnam).

I have my cold-weather capsule pretty well taken care of, I think. I will bring skinny jeans and layering tops and boots, a la my February trip to NYC, and it should be fine.

But I am worried about the cruising/warm weather portion of my travel capsule. I've seen photos of the ship and the passengers, and it's mostly women my age and older wearing capris and short-sleeved tops and sensible shoes and looking oh-so-touristy and not at all fashionable. Like, at all.

My constraints are as follows:

1. I need closed shoes that can go from boat to muddy riverbank to rickshaw without any fuss. I have a couple of pair of Sketchers that would probably work for this -- one tan and one dark gray.

2. It's going to be hot.

3. Everything needs to be washable and I can't count on there being pressing facilities available.

Should I just give up on trying to look stylish and wear shorts, tees, and sneaks? Or does anybody have any ideas to maintain my fabness within the above constraints?
