Starting somewhere! - YouLookFab Forum

Hi, everyone! So, as a new-to-style member, I've decided in the interest of starting somewhere (somewhere that won't require a completely new wardrobe!), I'd choose one of the 10 fall casual outfit formulas, and try to build an outfit based on what I own and maybe add a piece or two to complete it.

I love the idea of #5: Jeans + graphic / embellished T + boyfriend blazer + Converse sneakers. This is a look very similar to how I like dress, but stepped up with the blazer and an embellished (instead of plain) tee. I love a Converse, and would say my chief style descriptor is girly-tomboy.

Question on the blazer: I chase a three-year-old boy all day. A knit blazer would be ideal, and I'd love something with maybe a little interest like a tweed or such. Where would you begin looking? I'm not an experienced shopper (and it's hard to get that done with the afore-mentioned little boy) so online is great, but fit is hard - small bust, wide shoulders, long arms. I guess just size up?

Sorry for the long post, but as a new face, I thought more info was better!

Welcome Meegs. You could try ASOS. It's a pureplay that ships free so you could buy a swag of blazers and return whatever doesn't fit. Fit is so hard online. Your post is really clear and informative so you'll get heaps of good advice. Penny

I am not sure why the ones I bought are not showing (may be region or out of stock not sure). I love their fit but I am quite the opposite body type. May be you should check them out. I do agree that knit blazers are so much more comfortable.

I don't know where to suggest shopping, but I will say that I have a knit blazer that I love and I chase adults and children alike when I'm wearing it! Personally, I found a knitted blazer much easier to fit and very comfortable. The added bonus is being able to wash it at home, versus having to take it to the drycleaners...this may especially be a concern with your son.

I agree a knit blazer would be great for your lifestyle. I haven't seen one in tweed but think the striped ones are easy to find and are a great way to add the visual interest of a pattern to plain tops and bottoms.

Hi Meegs! I'm new also and will be watching your thread closely as I struggle with the same "small bust, broad shoulder, long-arm" syndrome and find blazers so, so hard to fit! Love the idea of a knit one. Otherwise I'm guessing we may have to try alterations? That seems so labor-intesive and expensive since I work at home and don't have extensive dress-up needs, but by reading here over the years, it's slowly becoming ingrained that fit is truly the key to looking polished.

When I bought this knit blazer I was sure I would be returning it, but I love it! It has pre-scrunched sleeves, nice longer length, easy to style collar and great stretch. Ricki's is Canadian, but just to give you an idea of something that could work. And welcome to the forum.

i going to suggest lands end canvas. this is just an example; but they have a few styles, carry a range of sizes, have great shipping and can be found in some sears stores. the styleing is more modern than lands end

Oh, my gosh, you guys are amazing. I have so many to check out!! I just ordered the Gap academy ponte blazer (in gray, because I'm a sucker for gray and this would be an improvement over my usual gray hoodie) because with a couple of promos the price became really reasonable. Now off to look at all the others!

Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack have Caslon as an in-house brand, and Caslon always has a WASHABLE unlined knit jacket or two every season. And if you wait, they always go on sale. I think the price point is about $69-89 full price. I'm not sure if the knit moto is Caslon or Halogen, their other in-house brand. GoldenPig has this knit moto (which is now on sale). Free shipping and returns, although I find it easier to return to the store than go to the post office. No time limit.

I have narrowish sloping shoulders, so knit jackets generally don't look good on me unless they have shoulder pads and the like. Thus, I can't vouch for any of the above -- except that they didn't *get* my body! They should get yours.
