Starting small with accessory change

Angie's post today makes me resolve to up my game a tiny bit regarding accessories.

I'm resolving to be less lazy about changing handbags to compliment my outfit.

What are you going to do? -- just so you know, "I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing" is a totally valid response.

Will pay attention to buy them in a statement/graphic/clean lines/modern metallic shine or antique finish/possibly artsy style of everything in the future (no dainty for me anymore I guess).

I find that more and more, I’m happiest with simple silhouettes and relatively simple cuts in garments, so the money I put into accessories to spice up a simple outfit is well spent. So lately I allow myself some more leeway on budget for a fabulous ring or scarf, and stick to relatively less pricey basics like tees. I’ve never worn a scarf or a piece of jewelry to tatters, so this makes sense for me.

Do you keep the contents organized in pouches or the like to make it easier to change out bags? Helps me quite a bit.
My change is to search for more attractive reading glasses instead of the cheapo dollar store ones I am wearing.

I have a massive shoe closet and many of the shoes are for the rare special occasion, and the shoes I wear on a regular basis are few. I'm trying to put a freeze on any new shoe purchases... at least until fall...

Angie - did you de-accession a bunch? I would have guessed at least double that number.

CIJ - so wise. I was better about using a "Kangaroo Keeper" when I worked outside my home.

Opaline - you got it. January 2 is the true test, not January 1.

Janet - interesting. I have gone completely the other way (spending a lot more on the things I wear daily). In a weird way, those both seem totally logical.

Don’t have that many bags and tend to stick to the same one all through the winter months but I do tend to make more of an effort with bags in the summer and rotate between a red,a white and a tan bag.However I do have to say that this always seems to mean the one thing that I need is always in the bag I ve left at home rather than the one I m carrying.

I've re-discovered my belts recently and am having fun playing with those. They add a nice "something" if you are a tucker of tops.

Maybe I'll buy a new necklace. One that hangs in the perfect spot to fill out the 'V' in a v-neck garment.

I'm in pretty good shape accessory-wise, but I definitely need to do a better job maintaining the INSIDE of my bags! So maybe that will be my resolution

OMG. I made that same exact resolution this morning! It would be easy if I kept all my bags in the foyer closet, but they are actually stored in a bedroom closet on the second floor. If I am really committed to this change, I will to change how I store my bags.

I always think I should wear earrings more often so that is a good place to start for me.

I have two day handbags and one small cross body- I swap them around but also find it a hassle.

I have a big collection of accessories that I've gathered over the years and I like to change them around. I try to be methodical so I rotate them and wear each piece at least once or twice every few months. I do wish there was an easier way to change bags. Right now I prefer the smallest bag I can get wallet and glasses into, and I don't think a pouch will work for me.

I want to keep investing in a some artisan silver jewelry sets (earrings, necklace and ring). I asked hubby to give me two sets so far (for my birthday and mother's day last year). Both sets are a combination of silver and gold metal, one has raw garnet and the other Majorcan pearls as center stones. I wear them quite often, and

and I love them both for their sentimental value and their practicality. They go well with the colors in my wardrobe. Next, I have my eye on a set with amethyst stones.

I am not big on bags, usually have one or two, and replace as worn out. I am planning to buy a satchel bag with a crossbody strap next. I may pick up a wallet to match.

I just got new sunglasses, the last pars was 6 years old. I also unexpectedly bought two watches. I ordered two to try on, one really inexpensive and one moderately expensive. I liked them both so I am keeping them. I am set with sunglasses and watches.

My accessory project is to make groupings of earrings and bracelets for summer and to see if I need anything. I should include belts, bags and shoes too.

I'm happy with my accessories for now, but debating adding a ring or two and maybe another chunky necklace like my multistrand turquoise one-baltic amber, garnet, or other warm toned stone. $$$ but I could make it with the right stones and a lot of patience!

I want to experiment more with jewelry other than earrings, especially with the hot weather and more exposed skin. I tend to think everything I try looks like too much on me though!

@Shevia does it look too much due to contrast? Even though I wear some pretty bold pieces (like the 2 new bracelets), they're low contrast on me, so don't look as bold as they do on their own!

My starting point is streamlining my jewelry!

I made a decision last year that I'd rather have fewer high quality pieces pieces that I really love instead of an overflowing jewelry box. I've loved the additions I've made since that decision (finds below), and am committed to keeping up with this change.

So now it's time to do another purge of the jewelry box, and remove some of the lower quality pieces that are no longer worn.

Starting small sounds like a great idea :).
I've been searching for a new daily handbag for a while now and I just don't find the perfect one (price, size and joy! factor must be just right :)). It would really elevate my outfits but better to be picky. I've also been contemplating adding a watch to my daily accessories, but that's also an expensive experiment so still pondering.
What I have been doing right now and will continue doing in the way of small steps, is wearing my existing accessories more often and more intentionally. Coordination earrings/necklaces/bracelets with scarves and/or shoes, picking up or contrasting colors in my outfit.
Also, by way of 'finishing' outfits: wearing necklaces when the neckline of my top demands it. Actually wearing bracelets with bracelet length sleeves :). Not being lazy and wearing those delicate ear studs that go with everything!

One of my goals is to wear my nicest pieces more often. The ones that get the least wear are fancy necklaces and bracelets. I often wear 2 necklaces of different lengths and a few bracelets at a time. When I wear the fancier pieces, I think less is more and will often only wear one. I am not a ritzy person and don’t want to look like I am playing dress up or trying too hard like Hereforthecake mentions.

Okay, the white is the bag in use, the blue is the one I'm going to carry today.

See the bee on the side of the Christian Siriano one? Bee is an important symbol for me. Both my sister's and my names mean "bee" in different languages (no, April is not my real name) and I gave her a variant of this same bag as well.

I'm not a huge accessories person. For me, accessories are more practical. So I won't be changing what I do a whole lot.

I would love to have more expendable cash, because having more handbags would be fab!

I do plan to get my ears pierced again (to have three holes in each ear), so that will be upping my accessories game.
