stab at a moniker?

Several forum members told me that the best way to begin to find a style identity is with Pinterest. So I put together a board, very quickly in just a few sittings. This is not a comprehensive research project, just some quick pins that made that intuitive "yes!" connection when I saw them.

Most of the captions are not mine, except for at the bottom of the board when I was just starting out.

Do these pics reflect a fairly consistent point of view?
And if so, what might it be?

I too see classic, ladylike (feminine), and tailored. Lots of belts, stripes, and neutral with punches of colour (the citron yellow, some reds in the handbags). Classic fabrics--wool, silk, leather, fine cotton (not in a hippie boho way--in an "I like beautiful fabrics" way).
A well-heeled wonder.

I noticed a love of chambray, leopard and black pencil skirts. You should check out Jenna Lyons as a style muse, your board makes me think of her style.

I see a subdued palette of navy, black and denim with a penchant for a little drama in terms of fabric: spots, stripes and vibrant scarves.
I also see a preference for a line that shows or suggests a defined waist.
I think of this as city chic dressing.

Nothing too formal or dressy.
A subdued palette of classic colours, and an element of practicality in the outfits. Nice!

Rae, DD (the one you met) is going to be whooping and hollering because she insists that the "graphic" is an essential part of my style.

Lyn D, I think you are dead on about the casual--this may be because I'm a California girl!

Penny and Becky, I was seeing that too--I love my neutrals, but with a little punch somewhere.

Becky and also Penny, I don't do defined waists--interesting that I was pinning that!

Denise, I'll check out Jenna Lyons. The outfits you showed do look just like my pins! I too noticed last night I was pinning leopard and chambray--and I don't own a single piece of either!

Caro and Natalie, thanks for the "elegant"--this is a word I've played with for years, but I'm not exactly sure what it means for me, or how I might demonstrate it!

Ingunn, Natalie, and Caro, I'm struggling with the "modern classic" concept even though it seems right in a lot of ways. I think partly because it's not specific enough to guide me--I can imagine lots of MC outfits I wouldn't wear. And partly because I'm a little scared I won't do the look with enough personality.

Modern classic is what I'd say, but I understand you'd like a more specific descriptor than that. I see a lot of ladylike looks, casually elegant looks, and neutrals (hey...leopard IS a neutral!) Calm neutrals.

Calm, casual, graphic classic?

I also understand the fear of "modern classic." So does Angie -- she did a whole bunch of blogs on this a while back.

Here's how I see it. You don't "do" the look. You ARE the look, when the look is right for you.

And now, as Mr. Suz would say, put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Suz, I was counting in you to chime in! I'll have to find those posts you mentioned. Casual graphic classic? I think we're getting there! I think the casual is key because the MC looks I shy away from include those that are overly formal or prissy.

I also think that for me there's a tension between casual and graphic that has confused me at times. But the casual keeps graphic from going over the top, and the graphic keeps casual from sloppy.

Thanks again to everyone and also to any future commenters. This feels vulnerable, as though I'd dressed for a body type analysis!

I really like your board! I plan to swing back by for some re-pinning as time allows As to description I like graphic a lot. I see a lot of bold looks that use classic neutral building blocks and distinctive patterns/pieces. Fab shoes or stitching detailing on one part of the outfit some nothing gets too busy or frentic. The casual side keeps the graphic away from the super urban slick side. Lovely compilation of looks!
