I've been to St Louis multiple times, either for work or to visit friends, and have a great affection for the city, which sometimes gets a bad rap, but is really an incredible place. For one thing, the city has wonderful museums, and they are all free. This does not happen in my hometown of Chicago. There's also wonderful public art throughout the city. Look at those giant bunnies! We stayed at the Angard Arts Hotel (where I snapped the red shoes) in the arts district, across from The Fabulous Fox Theater, where we saw lots of very well dressed people going to see the Tina Turner musical. We also had great Mexican food and barbecue, and enjoyed incredible views from the rooftop bar at our hotel. And of course we visited the Gateway Arch, which I have not been to in about 20 years. Since then they have added an amazing museum of St Louis history and culture, and it is well worth a visit.
