Aha! I figured it out. I remembers that years ago I read a solution for squeaky shoes — to use a bit of moisturizer inside.
I got a thin wooden skewer from our kitchen and put a bit of hand cream on it, slid it into the small space between the resin handle and the leather that holds it to the bag, and twisted the handle back and forth to get a bit of the hand cream on the surfaces. It worked! No more squeaking!
