Spring vibes ETA #OOTD - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all,

The weather here in the UK is getting warmer and the sun is shining more of the time: a welcome change! Like most apartment-dwellers these days, the great majority of my time is spent indoors, but I still venture out periodically in street clothes for fresh air and needed errands. (That is, when I'm not out jogging every other day in gear.) And my dressing habits at home are changing too to accommodate warmer weather and better light!

Below are some images of inspiration that I'm liking for spring, which I thought I might share here to see if I can establish any through-lines that might help me put together outfits with what I have at home and to guide any new purchases I will make as/when needed (not immediately).

Light neutrals in the range of coffee, khaki, tench, cream, and white seem to be present throughout, with a combo of classic, 90's, and 70's style notes.

What else do you see?

ETA: So grateful for all your thoughts and feedback. Decided to put my money where my mouth is and try to channel #7 into a stay-at-home look for today. Silver slide sandals replaced by fluffy slide slippers IRL. I'm super happy with this: very "practical polished," with a perfect-for-me combo of softness and structure and a little waist definition. Lots of classic items here. I notice in many instances three colours combined and black mainly as an accent rather than the main player. Lots of comfy footwear and fluid yet streamline fits.

Beautiful dressing, with an easy elegance. Parisian chic, natural make up and hair done, but not in an overt or manicured way.

I think these are also more colourful looks than we've seen from you - even though they are subtle. Light blue, plum, a touch of red, olive - multiple neutrals in an outfit rather than just one or two, prints and graphics, give a lively vibe which seems perfect for spring.

Bijou: I never would have seen the "three colors" pattern -- great eye! Yes, "black as an accent" is definitely my mood.

TG: It's possible this is *aspirationally* colorful: we'll see what I actually put on my body! But it is true that I like a bit of soft color in the spring. Isn't that plum so good?

It looks like each outfit is comprised of mostly casual/relaxed/flowy pieces with ONE structured piece (a trench or jacket w/pockets; pant with zip and pockets). I love the effortless feel of them all! Can't wait to see how it translates for you.

Lol, notsaf - perhaps a planned outlier in in order? I've been thinking about tiny details of colour for spring ... like a nail polish, scarf, or guitar strap-style switch-out on my black crossbody ...enough to scratch the itch without buying pieces that ultimately won't earn their keep. Might be a strategy?

The plum is GORGEOUS and would look so fab with your complexion and hair.

What Bijou said. I like that they are mostly wearing flat closed toe footwear. #4 with the wide crops is my favorite.

The silhouette is wider and flow-ey below the waist, and boxy on top (#2, #5) but pulled in at the waist. Also long over long. A trench figures big. You could try a shirt dress unbuttoned over an under layer if a trench is too warm.

Hair is worn mainly long and straight/ish. Rosy lip, clean eye makeup.

Sunglasses, when worn, are big, heavy, Jackie-O.

Toppers are structured, have weight, and a menswear feel.

Bags are big and slouchy, straw/raffia woven, or compact leather squares.

Not really seeing much in the way of jewelry.

With the exception of the yellow sandals, the footwear is clean-cut, not overly-fussy or scrappy.

Same with the outfits. Not seeing a lot of bells, whistles or fuss.

Nearly everything looks freshly pressed or steamed. No overtly wrinkly fabrics.

All of these outfits have an element of polish to them, but all of these outfits still look everyday and practical. You can really move in these outfits - walk your dogs, run after your kids, climb a ladder, weed the garden, in most of these outfits. I think the personal grooming, and the clean lines is what really elevates these looks.

This collection makes me think of Alexa Chung.

Nemo: Structure x softness is something I think I'm always playing with -- thanks for naming that! Blazers do a lot of that work for me usually, but with WFH I'm *really* not feeling them right now, so I think I'm seeking it in other places/piece.

TG: Yes, "tiny" doses of color! I guess that's why they call them "pops" huh?

Joy: Glad you are also digging practical footwear! I could see you in #4.

Carla: I do love trenches and longline toppers! But you're right there's a little more volume than usual for me here, while still keeping a kind of feminine silhouette -- thanks!

Angie: Thanks for looking! I think you're right: practically, those very close to things I actually have in my closet, too.

Accessories are the stars of the show. Modern shoes and bags - some chucks, some relaxed and some polished.

Coats and jackets are also important with simple pieces underneath. Not much pattern. Some volume too.

The outliers to me are the yellow sandals and the white smock dress. I like them both but they do seem a bit different to the other pieces.

2 and 6 are the most classic, the closest to what you have now. 4,5 boxy over cropped, but still with structure. 1, 3, 7 long topper + midi- but I see 7 as the outlier, because both the topper and the dress are soft rather than structured over soft.
I'd say just adding flowy cropped pants and/or midi skirt or dress to your existing wardrobe would get you close!

Thanks, Angie! The sandals were a little bit of a summer fantasy, I admit. Wonder how I would wear this out in the current weather, which is about 50 F/10 C... not that I have plans to go outside!

Ooh, I'm seeing some shapes here that might push your boundaries a bit. #3,4, and 7, especially feel more fashion forward with less tailored fits and chunky footwear. The colors all feel like they'd fit seamlessly into your wardrobe. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
