Spring Trench for Me? - YouLookFab Forum

I own a beautiful black Ellen Tracey trench with removeable hood, but sometimes in warmer spring weather, or on rainy summer days, I want a lighter (or brighter) trench instead of the black. I collected a few trench pix from Nordstrom's - any worth trying for me/my style? (I included Angie's "Emma Peel-esque" navy trench as well because although it is not bright or light, it is super!shiny!)

I have included some khaki/stone ones. I actually love the traditional trench color - it's really something that has to be judged in person, rather than a computer screen, as the color may not be as complexion draining as it appears online.

I often pair my Sunday outfits with my two Kate Spade bags, one in emerald, one in turquoise, so I suppose that's the other reason I'm leaning towards a neutral trench.

I much prefer the neutral ones, especially if your bags are colourful. I think I like the lighter "stone" coloured ones for spring. They all look very similar and classic.

Agree that some of the stone colors might be best - light and springy! Though I love the bright pink one.

I too have a love for the neutral coloured ones. I think they are classic and can go with just about anything. You can add colour with your bags and other accessories.

Another vote for the neutral trench for spring. My DIL finally found a Burberry in the right shade of stone-beige after hunting for a couple of years and on a few continents for just the right shade (she gives new meaning to Angie's PPP!) but she looks amazing every time she puts hers on. She was the one who convinced me to buy my trench in an olivey-bronzey shade of khaki that I thought looked terrible in the stone, but is actually exactly the right neutral for my skin tone. The right neutral may take some searching, but it's worth it.

Lots of classic trench details, similar to the Nordstrom's exclusive one (out of stock in what I assume is my size) but without the back flap thing (sorry, can't remember what that is called).

I love the look of the LF, and I think the stone would be super pretty if you find a shade you can wear. Denise has mentioned a few times that her LF has been a workhorse in beige, so it can be done!

Are you wanting a neutral jacket that will work with everything or are you wanting something with more colour?

I recently bought a LF spring jacket (not a true trench) and am thrilled with the quality. I don't think you can go wrong with that brand.

I echo Shannons question on whether you wanted a classic neutral or a pop of colour. I am personally quite torn on this as I love both. And, in spring a pop of colour is alot of fun. I do love the LF you have linked to.

Hm, both? Haha. I guess I have a soft spot in my heart for the classic khaki or stone trench, though I've been scared off by the thought that the wrong beige will not be flattering. However, my heart always skips a beat when I see a colorful trench - YET - if I'm honest, I think that the desire for a colorful trench is in conflict with having a small wardrobe. Perhaps in more skillful hands, you could have a small AND colorful wardrobe (in fact, I'm sure you could). But for me, I'm not brave nor skillful enough in my color combining. I worry that a 'pop of color' trench would hamstring me. My priority is a minimalist wardrobe above all.

If you're going minimal, then I think stone is definitely the way to go for you. I think a colored trench can be done in a minimalist wardrobe, but it was got to be that signature color that works as a neutral for you. Me, I could probably pair citron with everything in my closet and be happy. If you don't have a color you feel that way about, then there is nothing wrong with a neutral trench!

Haha - I don't think you could ever consider citron a neutral color, but it's definitely a complementary color for your wardrobe, and you totally rock it. I'm not sure I have a bright color that would work across my whole wardrobe (or most of it)...given that my handbags are in two of my favorite "bright" colors already. I fear too much color! haha

Ohhh, I LOVE the mint one (5). The color is so Spring, and I love the studs/details on the shoulder. That's my pick!

Given your preference for classic and minimal wardrobe I would go for the LF in beige with a new scarf in your favourite vibrant colour.

I agree with the votes for the LF in stone. It's light and springy but versatile, and you could accessorize with brighter colors.
