Spring Topper Ideas for Cobalt Godet Dress?

I am sooooooooooo tempted to clip the tags and wear my new dress out to lunch today! The only thing holding me back is that I am not sure what to match it with for work in warmer weather. I tried it with a short sleeved cardigan, but it is not my favourite look. I think the cardigan is too long and floppy, maybe?

Any ideas?

I was thinking a shorter white jacket, and I sort of love the zippered and cutout blazer in #3 but worry that it is too juniors/clubby. (http://www.simons.ca/simons/pr.....#038;colou) It looks terrible (read in french canadian accent - TerrEEbluh) buttoned in front in the pictures, but better open.

The dress by itself looks lovely on you. But the cardigan doesn't seem to work with this dress. The jacket now ... Is another story I like the back detail. And it could work well with your dress unbuttoned.

Do you have a more structured jacket instead of a cardi? White/black/silver/grey/mint? Or may be a shorter cardi? That could be worn without belting?

I have one shorter black blazer and my printed cardigan (below) which I'm not sure goes. Other than that, my toppers are all rather long and wintery, I'm afraid. Spring/summer toppers are on my shopping list.

Both sound good. May be you should try one of those and head out or wait until you find the right toppers and then rock it

Haha, wearing it now isn't a problem. It's -18 outside, so I'd throw on tights and a cardi and boots and go. I just want to make sure if I keep the dress I can find a way to wear it when it is finally warm!

I know it is from Talbots, but I was just there yesterday, and saw these.

IMO, you need a topper that ends before the fullness of the skirt. They are hard to find. I know I struggled last year with two fab full skirted dresses I bought before thinking about the topper.

Oh man! My head's a bit wobbly today with all the cold and flu. Lol!

That white jacket does look good ..... And if you find a mint topper cardi or light weight jacket it might be worth a try. Its a pastel that's easy to wear

I think you just need a topper that is shorter, hits at waist or even cropped. Cardigan would work; it could also be a pullover style, as long as it is "skirt length." You can also do a jean jacket or leather jacket.

I'm not crazy about pic 3 - it does look a little too clubby for work.

You can also wear something underneath - silk collared blouse, turtleneck -- for arm coverage/warmth, then just skip the topper.

As Neel and a few of the others have said I think the key to styling this dress is to keep whatever you put over either to the waist so you can see the floaty skirt or the same length as the dress for a more structured formal look.

Beautiful dress! I agree that the length of the topper needs to be shorter than the cardigan you have on here. Love the idea of a white denim jacket or white moto-style jacket, though not sure how work-appropriate that would be. I'd throw on a leather jacket with this as well. Have you tried Shiny's suggestion of layering a collared, long-sleeved top underneath it?

And shiny, you are KILLING me with that Michael Kors jacket. That might need to find a home in my closet.

I agree that you need something that's shorter - cropped preferably. What about a cropped jean jacket, maybe in white, or is that too casual for your workplace? Also, a cropped cardigan would be good.

Re Angie's point, that's why I don't own that many sleeveless dresses - 75% of the time I need to wear them with a topper and it often ruins the lines/integrity of the dress. Depends on your weather, of course.
