Spring stuff on sales, but no spring in sight

We've been having highs in the 30s. It is cold, damp, and the sun hasn't come out in almost 2 weeks. Our neighbors to the north are expecting a foot of snow, and we are praying it misses us.

And, all the spring stuff is one sale as the summer stuff starts coming out. *sigh*

Perhaps I should wait and buy spring and summer on sale and save buying full price for fall and winter!

Anyone else ever feel this way?

YES!!!!

You know last year was my first full spring on YLF. And it happened to be a really unusual spring. In the sense that we actually HAD a spring. And a long one, at that.

Well, I looked in my closet, and I had nothing. Or almost nothing. I immediately went into a panic and bought a few things. But I also did a lot of reflection about why I had nothing. And eventually I realized, I had nothing because ordinarily I had only a few real spring days to dress for. And I had not had a lot of money to spend on my wardrobe in years past. So spending money for spring just seemed dumb.

I think a lot of people where I live feel this way. You can tell by the ridiculous (and generally ugly) transitional outfits you see on the street. Flip flops with puffer coats (yes I have seen it). Heavy boots and Ts. Winter coats worn open and summer dresses underneath.

But truly, what is a person to do?

My solution is not far off yours. I try to make my transitional pieces truly transitional, i.e. wearable in either fall winter as well as spring (most of them) or in summer (a few). And I am putting my fashion dollars mostly in fall/ winter.

Thistle, I think if you are missing any key components which your spring/summer wardrobe needs to function (e.g. bermudas, layering tanks, linen blouses..), those items are worth buying earlier if you find them simply to make sure that you've got them and that the size doesn't sell out by the time the sales come around (that always happens to me!). If this season is short for you, it's totally worth coming up with a plan for a few key pieces that you can pair with transitional items as Suz mentioned.

What is spring wardrobe really? Pastels? and lightweight jackets?

I usually swtich to a new color palette and keep wearing winter booties&boots until the real warm weather comes. Then it is loafers and oxfords until the actual summer comes. The clothes stay pretty much the same from March to June. But that is a long spring! and we could say we barely get summer!

This is a tough one because I am notorious for waiting and then of course I have to settle because the options and sizing are no longer available. I still haven't learned because I missed out on the sandals I had selected - they sat in my cart with me hoping for a reduction. I think the best approach is to have a solid list of items you need for spring and summer. Try and shop for them early in the season so they are ready to go as soon as you need them. Keep to the list so you don't overspend and keep shopping.

Oh Thistle, same here but it's Autumn that has gone AWOL! I want to partake of what's on offer but don't know how long before I can wear them.

We've skipped spring altogether here. Went from 40's to 80's. I had to scramble for the kids' shorts (and found DS had outgrown all of his from last year).
