Dilemma: Spending money to save money?... (Anne Fontaine SS13)

Dear YLFers, I have been so good at not spending any money and being on a self imposed shopping hiatus. Unfortunately as superman has kryptonite to bring him down to his knees er... I have Anne Fontaine to thank for the same thing. Grr, I am either lucky or unlucky that she and I met a few years ago through a generous friend. However now, she wants to wish me a "Happy International Women's Day" and has invited me to a Soirée to celebrate her new Spring-Summer collection. Not only that, but has granted me a $50 gift card I must spend on SS13 Collection by March 31.

Dare I? My original plan was to wait until the June/July timeframe to pick up a one new
shirt from that collection because that's when I find her prices more palatable. Admittedly I have purchased some of her classic collection at full price because I do wear all her blouses to death, so my CPW is quite good. Not to mention I have another $60 credit from returning a gift.

What do you all think? Should I stick to my original plan or what would you do?

Anyone else ever get tempted like foolish me, because I know spending money to save money isn't wise but it's fun to contemplate....

I would say, with $130 off....well.....it seems like a bargain.

So, I am accountant, and spending money to save money just makes me cringe.

However, the experience of going to the soirée is altogether different. Spending money on an experience is why we work hard to earn money. I would look at the cost of the shirt as the cost of going to the soirée.

@Suz - hardly a bargain when I think her lowest price point shirt is ~$200USD, then again her only discounts are 30% end of season. She does bring out vintage stuff, I scored a white tunic for $99 (if you can call that a bargain). It's definitely kryptonite. I will take photos, in fact I have her price point sheet from SS13. Should I post?

@thistle - how I enjoy your humor, it made me cringe too when I said I was feeling foolish, since this will be a level 3 item for me.... But I got a raise did I mention that? Should I treat myself to an experience?

With the gift card, will her blouses come down to the June/July price? Or with gift card + credit will it come down to about the same price? You were planning to buy anyway; this will only accelerate it and allow you to have more wearings. Also, since you know her stuff fits you and you have worn her stuff to death, this puts this in a different category for me. For example, I have never tried on her stuff and don't know that I would ultimately wear it much, so for a person like me I would be much more hesitant.

@Donna, I guess it's a matter of math then.

$200 shirt - a 50 gift card is only 25% off
$300 shirt - 16.6% off
And it progressively gets worse from there

So you're right. The only pros are I get to wear it sooner. I am better off waiting until June/July. Thank you!

Go but buy only if you find something you love and will wear. Just the experience is worth something.

@Runcarla and Joy - my you two are such wonderful enablers. I was sleeping on it and I was thinking, well if I found something that was $100-$150 then it would be a good bargain so I may just go.

If you actually can't afford one of her shirts at this sale even with the discounts, don't go.

If you can, and you want to go, and you find something you like, then bless you and enjoy.

@ironkurtin - unfortunately I'm not terrible at math so I'm willing to admit I didn't want to do the math until I had to. I thank you for your thoughts. I always need encouragement to spend because apparently I have fear of spending money.
