Today while I was out running errands, I stopped by the eye place where I go for my optometrist appointments and eyeglass shopping. They told me my last appointment there was in 2010, so I am indeed overdue for some eyeglass shopping! (I'm not quite as excited about getting my eyes examined, but it's kinda important, so I'll muddle through somehow -- one of my least favorite things to do, with my weirdly sensitive eyes)
I got started looking at some frames today, and there are a few they're setting aside for me to consider at my appointment on Monday. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep my old Oliver Peoples aviator frames for my sunglasses and get new prescription lenses. I looked at some other aviator-ish sunglasses as well, and I may go for a second pair of sunglasses because I'm pretty hard on my sunglasses. I'm amazed these have gotten through the years as well as they have.
Here are pics of two of my favorites from today. They're a definite departure for me, but I want something a bit different from what I've done before. It's tricky though, because a lot of styles simply look wrong or awkward on me. Most glasses are too big, or they're too closed-in looking on my small face and large eyes.
I'm also excited about the idea of a shade of blue/green for glasses (I haven't had blue or green glasses since I was in my early 20s), and I love tortoiseshell too.
The first photo are my favorites so far. I don't think the photo does them justice -- it's a lovely tortoiseshell on top, with hints of a slightly teal-ish blue, and thin solid blue on the bottom. They follow my browline nicely and are a little larger than what I've been wearing, but somehow manage not to overpower my face. The dark tortoiseshell echoes tones in my hair, and the green-blue goes with my eyes.
The second two photos are two different colors/patterns of the same frames. Definitely a bit funkier and artier, and more cat-eye than I thought I would ever like on me, but the effect is actually pretty subtle until you're up close. I like the idea of the burgundy -- they didn't have these two colors in stock, so we have to order them to try them on me (I tried them in a purplish color).
I'll post more on Monday!
