Speaking of oversize--question

This cardigan is just never, never going to work on me, right? I mean no matter how much I like the fabric? And then if I can't pull that off, then what does go with these jewel patterned leggings? I already own the leggings but find them harder to style well than I anticipated. I don't plan to show them off quite like the model!

Why won't this work on you? This is one of my favorite silhouettes! And I think wearing it pregnant is even better - then you can keep using it later.

I think I would like the jacket more if the sleeves were more fitted (just my own personal preference). I can see the leggings working with a cargo jacket or a longer tunic or sweater just fine.

Scarlet, you'll have to forgive me, but I can't remember what you look like, so I can't answer that first question at all. I do assume you're a little taller than you look in your avatar. ;o)

As for the leggings, I could see them with jewel-tone tunics (appropriate, isn't it?), preferably with some volume or ruching, and probably in smoother textures. Loose and simple to counterbalance the tight and busy of the leggings.

Yeah, the bulk of the sleeves could be the biggest problem. I just love the drapiness and the fabric so much.

JR--the trouble is I am rather small of stature and afraid I will just look ridiculous in so much fabric. I like your comment about jewel tones

My trouble with the leggings is mainly figuring out a whole outfit. The colors are a little more confusing that I was counting on, and I guess the other problem is that I am having trouble finding tops long enough.

I don't even want to post these pictures because they are kind of awful (and they are old--I am much larger now in the bump arena) but maybe it will help for the visual.
ETA: had to remove them again--couldn't stand it.

What confuses you about the colors? I think the white looks great with it and I can see grey, black and navy as other neutrals to go with it. Or with jewel-tones like JR suggested. How about a denim shirt? If the length of the shirts are a problem you maybe need some shorter dresses instead?

As for the sweater, I'm not sure about it. I think it might just be too much fabric on you. I agree with Jonesy, it would be easier to pull off if it had fitted sleeves.

Hmm, I guess I would really like to pair the leggings with grey and black (or denim, like you suggested), but I just can't find the right pieces in my closet or the store. I have worn the leggings a couple of times with a long but fitted navy sweater, but it feels a little too figure-concious. I guess it is coming down to shopping troubles?

As soon as somebody mentioned your pregnancy, I remembered who you were (I was writing while the others were posting). If the fabrics are fluid, it seems to me that excess volume wouldn't be a problem. The only way to find out is to try. I'll bet you've got things in your closet that would work just fine.

I would go for a plain oversized sweater.

Oh, I like the idea of a sweater like this too! Although it may be difficult to find one with the right amount of slouch that isn't too overwhelming.

I love Jonesy's idea of slim sleeves and voluminous body. The slim sleeves will rein in the volume.

Astrid, I actually do have a denim dress and it hadn't occurred to me try it together. Thanks for the links--I see H&M has some new stuff for fall!

I like the idea of an oversize sweater too, but it is so hard to find something at the moment without acrylic! It seems like there are more things in the stores all the time now though, so I guess I should be patient. Although it's getting kind of cold and my fall jackets do not close!! Maybe I need to check the men's section?

ASOS doesn't have much fall stuff at the moment, but it may be worth a look from time to time? Maybe they get an oversized sweater in.

And I really like that H&M sweater you linked to, even if it's not oversized. What about the black parka they have? If you don't have a jacket that closes. It's cotton and I think it looks nice and isn't as expensive as many of the other maternity stuff out there.

They are all real wool, no acrylic anywhere. I have one of their sweaters and and it's really warm and a nice quality! Maybe one of the big sizes fits you. They have concrete measurements for all their garments so you can have a look, maybe even in the men's section?

The concept is very fab, Scarlet. Agree that you should keep looking for one that has shorter voluminous sleeves, or fitted long sleeves.

Thanks for the links. Wow the prices on those sweaters are really not bad! Also I had forgotten about ASOS, so good that you remind me. It looks like it's about time that they get some more fall/winter clothes in! I have got to sort out the jacket situation as well. I have been eyeing that parka all summer actually but didn't want to jump the gun. Hmm. The cool weather came so suddenly, it seems.
