I have a belted jacket in a similar length -- but it's actually a stiffer leather jacket by Belstaff. It looks best zipped up and belted, so I need to wear it on a day when I'm prepared to commit to that look and don't just want a throw-on-and-off piece.
This jacket has two advantages over mine -- it's lighter and more flexible/fluid, and it snaps rather than zips, if I am seeing it correctly. It may hang better open and unbelted than my jacket does.
The belting reminds me of a trench coat. It's one of the things I just accept with that style -- the advantage is that it's nice for a bit of waist definition, the disadvantage is that it's another step in getting ready to go out to tie or fasten the belt. Not a huge deal in my opinion, but there are times I want to wear it open, and the belt flapping around can be annoying. Or it can get closed in the car door.
