Speaking of full skirts... - YouLookFab Forum

I was so happy to see Angie's post this morning since I own many full skirts! DF (dress form) was more than happy to play along!

I thought I'd try styling some orphan pieces...

1) This "skirt" is actually a dress but the top portion is not flattering on me. I only wear it in the winter when I can layer a black turtleneck sweater over the top. How do we feel about this maximal striped-floral combo?

2) I forgot I had this black, short sleeved safari blazer. Are the big buttons yucky? There are big buttons on the sleeve too, so I cuffed once to hide them. I'm hoping the SE Petty booties update the look a bit, but is the animal flat a viable option? If y'all give the green light, I might wear this one today to bring the kiddos to the mall for their monthly Lego build event.

3) I like this vest for its subtle baroque vibe. I added the casual tab sleeve button down to make it less stuffy. Buttoning up the vest gave it a waitress vibe, LOL! So vest is open and I added a metallic belt to make it less restaurant-ish. Oh for the want of a fun metallic flat!!! These pumps have gold accents and a big buckle to bookend the belt. Alas, they are only 2 hour shoes, so I'll most likely wear my black ankle strap sandals which are MIA at the moment.

OK, any of these passable? Thanks for your help and suggestions!

Haha, Deb, I was just thinking the same thing -- *I* need a dress form! -- and then I read your post.

AJ, the buttons on #2 are fine. I like them. And I think all of those outfits are lovely. I like your Baroque-ish vest!

My dress form made it;s maiden voyage on my blog today, showing my thrift finds from the weekend. Next time I'm not feeling well, I 'll dress it in a full outfit. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks Deb, Elizabeth, and Thistle! Hubby bought DF for Mother's Day a couple of years ago. I keep it in my bedroom all dressed up.

I love them all. Those buttons look fine to me on 2 and 3 is lovely with the baroque vest. Aren't your shoes fab!

Aj, I ADORE these outfits, each and every one! The vest is super. I would love one like that. And that first skirt is so pretty and fresh.

Oh cool, what a great way to try out outfits. I think they all work well, my fav may be 3.

Love all. Really like #1 with the pattern mix, in the photo the top looks kind of long but I imagine IRL it will ride up more and be just right. The animal print shoes are a cute thought on #2 but the bootie would also be great. #3 is very crisp/lady like.

Great dress form! I like #1 and #3 best. That is a great idea to put the sweater over the unflattering top in #1. I like the structure the vest brings in #3 and those great two tone shoes!

Can you put the jacket from 2 on the skirt from 1?
I also might reuse the shoes from 1 on 3. Love the styling of 3 otherwise, what a great vest

I like all of those. Might try the first one with the dress I just posted for the Dress Challenge Day 2 - good way to wear it into Autumn. I like the second outfit with the boots and I think the 3rd is great as is.

Love everything about #1! For #2 I think only the booties work to keep the look updated. For #3 I would prefer to see those booties yet again

You are Queen Remix! You see things in garments and make combinations that are extraordinary! All the looks are great, but rack up another vote for #3 here!

P.S. I think modern footwear would do wonders for #2 -- not "on trend" perhaps, but still a classic pairing.

Aj, these are your looks and you will own them. I like Aida's suggestions, but these skirts are perfect.

Oh thanks for the replies and great suggestions! I'm not surprised that the SE booties are preferred for 2 and 3. I've worn them ALOT already for the 2 weeks I've had them!

I am surprised that outfit #3 is well liked. I thought the forum would consider the vest dated and frumpy. I really like how the belt adds that extra zing. Not sure how it will translate on me, but I'll give it a whirl!

@Tracina - the striped sweater might be a bit long, but I can always belt it.

@Kiwichick - Actually my dress has the same v-neck as your #2 challenge dress. I just don't fill it out as nicely as you. : )

Eep - outfit #3 is love! Very posh eclectic. But I'd put it with a wide burgundy leather belt with some detailing on it just to stop the outfit from becoming too monochromatic.

And, FYI, waistcoats/vests are not dated; they are the very pinnacle of awesomeness.

Love all of these! I don't mind the pattern mixing in #1 at all, but I'd probably like it better if the sweater was white, not grey.
