Space between waist and bottom

Fashintern has mentioned a few times about trying on her high school pants and finding "There is always an awkward poof at the top of my butt, about as big as my hand."
This reminded me of my fitting issue but I am sure it isn't actually the same thing. I have a long torso, a long rise, a low slung bottom and a sway back. There's at least a hand's width between waist and start of my bottom and it often is a bit baggy there.
Anyone the same?

I get mine tailored to fit properly. It fixes that.

I get this exact thing. It is a function of having a long rise, I think.
Of all the possible fit issues, this one doesn’t seem too bad

Yes I think I will too. I will just to it myself though by taking in the side seams a bit.

Not necessarily just a long rise — sometimes the product of simply having a slim waist and not much junk in the trunk. Trust me, it’s not a bad problem to have.

Given it’s a jumpsuit, you don’t want absolutely perfectly tailored look, because using the toilet would be a royal pain.

Janet - yes, and that was perhaps the situation FI was using - though she was describing muscle loss. In my case it isn't muscle related - my bottom just doesn't start until lower down - that flat space is just my back.
Annagybe - Maybe - but there'a a back zip. Definitely wouldn't fit over my full bottom without it!

I have this also often. Long rise. Short waist.
I buy skirts with stretch so that it isn't so obvious. And have you tried pinning the waistseam in the back, so that you have less fabric there. Not taking in the side seams, I mean.

Hi Adriana, since I wrote the above I have been thinking about adjusting the back darts instead. I am a bit reluctant to take in the back seam, though I see your point, because I would have to redo the zip and I don't think my sewing skills are up to it.
Not even sure my machine can be made to work again now I think of it! I can use my mum's though.

And you are correct that what you and I are talking about are different: You're talking about the way you are built, with a low-slung butt. I'm talking about a way my body has changed. My clothes wouldn't have that extra room if it had not once been filled. My "junk in the trunk" was placed a bit differently than I think Janet's is--it was higher up, not the attractive kind down around low hip/thigh as pears are. That is also evident in that the weight I have gained clearly does not go to my back side--it is all the unhealthy ab fat.

The darts sound like a good fix it for your pants.

O no. I didn't realize there was a zip. I did this with jeans once and more often with pull on skirts. It feels strange when you have a long rise or with a skirt, to cut an inch of fabric between the band and fabric.

I have a short rise, round bottom, regular length waist, and defined natural waist.

I have a sway back, and run into this fit challenge with HIGH rise bottoms. I just have them altered to fit.

I have a long torso, long rise, narrow waist and a round tush - I get this on almost every single pair of pants or jeans. My tailor and I are on a first-name basis.

I have a long rise and I sometimes run into this with higher rise items. I either alter or don't buy (if it's really pronounced.) It happens less to me now that my waist measurement is a little bit bigger in relation to my hips. I'm still a slight hourglass but the difference between waist and bum is not as extreme, and that helps.

I’ve never had this problem.... hmm maybe I have a high butt! So many body shape modifiers to contend with lol

I think this is a very common fit problem, especially if you're at all curvy and wanting to wear pants at your waist instead of your hip. One benefit of low rises, other flattery factors aside, is that you avoid the potential for backside poof.

That said, I agree with annagybe that you don't want to over-tailor a jumpsuit. With pants you want the waist nice and snug, but if you go too close to the body with a jumpsuit it can be a hassle getting it on and off...

FI - yes what you said sparked my thought patterns, rather that being the same

Adriana - yes I have just thrifted a pull on stretchy skirt with that big extra loop of elastic at the back of the waistband I need to take in

Angie - so what we have in common is the round bottom and the sway back - I didn't know I had one until a relative who is a dressmaker pointed it out - she is used to seeing bodies in terms of alteration issues!

Nemosmum - sounds like we have a similar body type!

Suz - My waist measurement has increased too - but I think it has increased at the front rather than the back, if that makes sense

La ped - I was hoping someone would say that this fit is fine and I don't have to take it in!!
The problem with low rises on my build though, is that they tend to slip down and not cover the bottom enough and they don't do my long torso any favours either. I'm over them.

Ditto Angie. You have a round bottom and sway back if - when you lie prone on the ground and can fit your entire arm under your back and the floor (I call it the tunnel) - hahaha. I have had this problem my entire life.

To answer your question.: -Me, but worse: -with a protruding tummy(tilted pelvis) and many pounds plus,too- but still alive!:-)
