Sound of music - clothing inspiration

I watched the Sound of music with my kids yesterday. I hadn't watched it for some years and it is a testament to YLF that I startled googling costumes from it once I got the kids to bed. (A few years ago it would never have occured to me)

I do love 30's style - though I realise that SOM is a 60's version of 30's style. I particularly liked the Baroness's style (very interesting that in one look her blouse is lower than her jacket - pic 1), and Maria's wedding dress (pic 2) - particularly the neckline.

And a suit that Maria wears has a jacket (pic3) that I have decided is pretty much the style I'd like to get my jacket it -though whether it would suit me is another question - and comments welcome on that!

I love the Baroness' outfit - especially that blouse! The wedding dress is gorgeous, but I'm not sure about the suit in pic 3. The tailored look of the jacket is very nice, but I'm pretty iffy on the matching voluminous skirt. I'm not sure of your shape, but I think the tailored jacket in pic 3 is flattering on nearly every body type.

Yes Jilly I only meant the jacket! (My shape is a pear/rectangle with strong shoulders and a small bust)

I've only seen that move, oh about a zillion times! I love the baroness' style too (evil woman though she is!). You can tell the 60's influence by all of the gold and greens in the costumes and home decor. I think that jacket is a great inspiration idea for you! Loved the wedding dress too, maybe that's why I had visions of a mile long train when it was time for me to be married........it's all making sense now! (That and Princess Di's train!)

Thanks Claire and Angie. Angie I have been trawling the internet trying to find a better picture of the jacket - to no avail. She only wears it for a bit - when they arrive home from honeymoon and for the reprise of "I am sixteen" with Liesl" which is done seated as in the photo above. Here is one more bad photo of it with even less showing.

Claire it is such a great movie. When I was growing up we didn't have a TV most of the time, but when it came on TV my Dad hired one so we could watch it. And we had a tape with the songs and listened to them a great deal.
