Sorting my closet for Fall/Winter 2014

Okay, this is new for me. I usually don't think a season ahead. And sometimes, I honestly just kinda recycle my clothes each season, with maybe a new shoe or blouse purchase to freshen things up.

So with that said...

I loved most of the looks from Pucci, Etro, Stella Jean, and Dries.

Looks...

- Floral/ethnic sweater or jacket. I see a lot of this all over the runways and it fits my more bohemian style. (Honestly, it seems it comes around in some form every F/W.)

- roomy jacket or sweater, belted. It's maximal, and that fits a lot of my style.

- cropped pants. I'll either keep cuffing the skinny jeans, or pick up a pair of cropped something.

- sporty-luxe. I'm a huge hat girl, so beanies are an easy go-to for me.

- knitwear. I knit knitwear! I own and wear knitwear! HUZZAH! I think oversized sweaters can look hefty. But in all fairness, cropped, fitted sweaters sometimes scream " "Preppy precious princess meets Queen of England" to me. I think a reasonably oversized sweater can look really romantic, especially if paired with skinnies or boyfriends, and booties. So that's the plan.

- black. I'm glad this color remains rather huge. As earthy as I get is deep moss green, or pine green. And ink/navy blue has always felt more spring/summer to me. Skipping earth tones this season. They make me feel washed out, sad, and blah. I might find a place in my closet and heart for a touch of cognac but that's it.

- bohemian tops, tucked in and paired with belted, roomier cropped trousers, and booties. This might be worth trying.

- fur. There was a fair amount on the runways. I like that!

- boots. YAY! I have those too!

Things I Own...

- knitwear and roomy jacket/sweater belted.

I didn't see this a lot on the runways. BUT I am knitting up a gorgeous cabled cape in dark plummy raisin color. It's knitwear. And it's maximal. So if I can get it finished in time to wear this season, I'll definitely make it a signature piece.

I also have some sweaters - an oversized black mohair with a ribbon tied through the collar; lightweight merino in camel from J. Crew; navy v-neck from Gap; a behemoth lodge sweater with giant shawl collar. All of these can certainly get some use.

- fur. I own a lot of vintage fur, including a gorgeous chocolate, silver, and cream fox stole (with the head and legs, for real). So I need to pop this out more and enjoy it. I also have a boxy seal fur coat from the 50s that should look stellar!

- bohemian tops. I have a couple of these that can easily be used.

- boots. My closet is holding tall, chunky heel brown boots (rounded toe); and mid-heeled black booties with side buckles.

- sporty luxe. It's not my favorite trend. But I have a dolman grey sweatshirt I both 3 years ago that I am forever wearing and recycling. And I have a few beanies (thanks to knitting lot) that I'll make use of.

- jeans. gonna distress my last pair of too-large Gap skinnies and roll those up.

Whew....lots to think through!

I am behind on posts but just wanted to say welcome! I enjoyed your style shift post. I too moved away from high maintenance glamour to 70s boho/glam when I moved from NYC to LA. I just didn't realize it until I joined YLF!
You are totally gorgeous and it sounds like you are a planner when it comes to wardrobe building. Looking forward to getting to know you!

I like fur (and also, the ethnic floral caught my eye for this year too). I think I should plan on risking my life and wear my fur on the streets this winter. Not that it's real; but while pleather gets a pass - faux fur, not really. These people.

Celeste you are lovely Thank you for the welcome and the comments on my post. So, so happy to have a fashion twinsie here I think LA does something to the brain. Maybe it's the ocean air, or the sun? I don't know. But one week and I was already done with all of my pin-up stuff, high glamour, etc. I was probably already frustrated with it before my LA vaca. But I think the relaxed atmosphere just pushed me there and helped me realize it. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you too!!

I don't know about planning... I do a lot of it in my head and on paper. But sometimes the plans don't make it to my closet ha! I am finding the planning keeps me from making poor choices or random splurges. Really, really helpful, that one.

RacheyLou "These people." you make me laugh so hard!! I risk it everywhere except Boulder. The people in Boulder truly are their own republic. I have no doubt someone would be mad enough to either steal my fur for money, or try to ruin it because it's fur and I must be a murderer of animals. (My furs have been dead for 75+ years, so I feel it a shame to toss them or harm them. They already suffered years ago, and then sat collecting dust. Why not enjoy them? That's how I feel about it anyway.)

When I was in grad school (I was an older student) a young, fresh-faced idealist asked me what my mink coat was made of. I told her: rat fur.

She believed me. She also tended to avoid me after that.

em holy cow, that's hilarious!!! HA! I admit to being a bit more idealistic in college. However, I still had vintage fur coats I had snagged for cheap at Goodwill. And I wore them with my hippie duds, shyly, but with pride.

It sounds as if you are really clear on what you want to wear this fall, and that's a great place to be.

Keturah, It sounds like you are doing a great job analyzing what you have and what you need to try all the new looks that appeal to you. It will pay off, doing F/W homework while you're sitting by the fan with your spray bottle of water.

Suz haha! YES! I'm all about maximal - and I feel that's a good place for me to be, because I'm curvy, I'm tall, and anything cropped or delicate just feels wrong on me. Here's to fall clothes--and giant sweaters

I've never really done my homework. I'm more the instinctive type. Sometimes that's good, but it also can get me into trouble with making bad purchases and all that jazz. So far, I'm finding the planning to be helpful. P.S. If you're over the age of 21, you can never have too many ! or LOL.

Sterling you made me *blush* a hundred times. Thank you <3 I'm learning and sorting through a lot since becoming active on YLF this summer. I just posted a WIW and will try to do so on a regular basis.
