Sort of OT: My newest accessory

It was my dad's birthday today so we went to this pan-Asian restaurant where they were doing complimentary henna tattoos. This is mine!

That's not the color of the mehndi itself. It was still wet at the time. I just scraped it off and it has left behind a lovely roasted pumpkin color, and will continue to darken a bit.

Anyway, I have never had it done before (I know, I'm such a bad Indian girl) but it was a lot of fun. Sort of funny to see it outside of the actual cultural context: There were all these old white men getting "manly" versions done on their wrists and arms, hehe.

I have my other Anthropologie interview on Wednesday and I think it will actually be my most relevant accessory! (Also filled out applications for J Crew, Banana Republic, and a new Henri Bendel store that is opening in the mall...but that's another post all together).

Maya, the Henna tattoo are beautiful, does this one have a particular meaning? I've seen them on brides before, do they a spiritual context?

I think your tattoo will be the perfect talking point for your interview on Wednesday.

Marianna, I did not get a second interview (well not yet at least). I'm just interviewing at a different store.

Julie, I'm probably not poised to answer your question. I'm not Hindu or Muslim I'm afraid, hence this being my first mehndi application. But that's the interesting thing about henna: It's a very common practice all throughout South Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Africa. I know Hindus apply it during weddings, the seventh month of pregnancy, and after the baby is born. But also during festivals and holidays, of which there are an abundance starting now.

I have heard that Hindus believe that the darker the henna turns on a bride, the more her husband will love her.

I'm sure Vani, Shana, and the rest of the YLF Indian crew are more knowledgeable about this than I am.

This is the only kind of tattoo I like, and I don't just like henna tattoos - I LOVE them! Gorgeous!
