Sort of OT: Flight of the Conchords

Does anyone watch this show? DH and I LOVE it - I got him the DVD set for Christmas and we have been stretching them out, one a night, so we don't go through them too soon.

I thought of the 70s trend last night while laughing at the wardrobe of the two main characters, who are guys. They are so groovy and right on!

Yes, we loved this show! We were so sad when it ended :(. Their music videos are so hilarious. This one, Boom, is one of my faves. Bret and Jemaine are so pathetic and dorky, and the song lyrics are so goofy/raunchy. I adore how they satirize musicians, young men, masculinity, etc. Good times!

Oh, man, Jonesy! We are up to the 1st episode of season 2. Murray reminds me of George Costanza - not in personality, but in the way the painful situations they get into make you just SQUIRM.

So far on songs it's a toss-up between "Business Time" and "Frodo, Don't Wear the Ring", but there is not one song that doesn't make me double over laughing.

Hard to say! Bret is cute in a naive way, but Jemaine has some sort of strange geek appeal. They are both really talented with all the different genres they're able to imitate.

Maybe we should become their 2nd and 3rd fans.

Yes - I gave my boyfriend the season 1 DVDs for his birthday a year ago and we've had a lot of fun going through them.

I also love If You're Into It and the whole Bret You've Got It Goin On scene cracks me up.

We just got "Dinner for Schmucks" from Netflix. Which, after we requested it, our friends told us wasn't very good...BUT i'm excited to see the guy who plays Jamaine on Flight of the Conchords in it...i can't remember his real name and i'm too lazy to google it right now.

Nicole, I haven't seen Dinner for Schmucks, but the original French film that it was based on (Le dîner de cons, or The Dinner Game) was funny.

For what it's worth, Dinner for Schmucks is funny at times, but large parts of the movie were really painful to watch. Probably on par with, if not more painful than, Meet the Parents. Certainly not Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, or Zach Galifianakis' best work.

Yes, love them of course! I saw them in their very early days before the got World Famous outside if NZ in comedy clubs. It is so fantastic that they have done so well!

I knew Dinner for Smucks was baised off a French film, and i'm always a tad bit wary when things are Americanized. But hey, The Office turned out good after that awkward 1st season! I hopefully will get to watch it tonight if the Hubby doesn't get off work too late.

Super jealous of anyone and everyone who has seen them live!

And I love indie and public radio. <3

Having lived in NZ at the time the original season of Flight of the Conchords came out, we were one of the earlybirds and so it was a while before I got to see Jemaine on the screen again in Dinned with Schmucks - which I actually enjoyed quite a bit. I suggest focusing on the cultural sarcasm of Jemaine's character and ignoring the lame romantic comedy plot. Enjoy!!!

Oh I love the Conchords! So very funny. I first saw them when someone sent us their HBO special, then we watched the first series and had to wait ages for the second one. Apparently there's a radio show they did in the UK as well?

Love the song' business time"...really funny, but dont watch a lot of tv so haven't seen a lot of their series.
It seems to be really big in the states ..when I was there last year, even in tiny obscure places, as soon as I said I was from NZ, people would mention the flight of the conchords"

Another HBO funny series was Ricky Gervais (of the BBC The Office...and hosting next weeks Golden Globes) EXTRAS.

I discovered them last week, almost by accident. Actually I don't remember how exactly - one of those late night searches, when one thing leads to another and another. My first song was Business Time. I died

I immediately ordered the DVDs and CDs from the library, but also couldn't resist and looked through youtube. So hilarious!!!

I've heard about the show from other people I know, I just never took the plunge before. Now I can't wait for my library order.

I love those guys. I'd have a hard time choosing between the two, if I were single and younger, and all that. But I think I'd have to go with Bret. He's just so darn cute.

Okay, time for a tidbit. Bret has a tiny little bit part in one of the Lord of the Rings movies, for anyone who didn't know it already. He was the elf who told Arwen that she needed to hurry to catch the ship.

Seriously though, FOTC would be a great distraction for her. You have to pay attention to the lyrics, and it's great for taking your mind off other things. But it's also very fun and easy to absorb.

I got the Bowie song stuck in my head few days ago. Which inspired me to rewatch Bowie on Extras. Which led to rewatching of other choice Extras appearances.
My tummy is not feeling well lately, so it's been a good distraction.

Also, I have to find a way to use this line "Be more constructive with your feedback!"
