Sorel boots - what do you think?

Hi ladies,
After reading all the rave reviews on the Joan of Arc boot here last year, I am thinking of taking the plunge as I want a fashion-y boot that can still take the elements as I trek around in winter. I am also thinking of the Cate the Greats. Would love your feedback on both. Have you bought these? Do you like them? Do they ever go on sale? I am trying really hard to plan and limit my purchases this winter as I have an overflowing wardrobe, but my boot capsule needs refreshing and I think these would fill a real hole.

I purchased my first Sorel's last year and I love them! I couldn't decide between the mid or the fur trimmed bootie but ended up with the fur trimmed bootie because I could slip them on/off easily. Honestly, I wanted to keep both and almost did, but my rational mind kicked in and made me return them.

They were my most worn winter boots last year and I imagine they will be this year as well. I highly recommend them. The Cate the Great style you chose is really fabulous. I think you will enjoy them. I'm not sure they ever go on sale unless it's off season.

My snow boots are a discontinued Sorel style called Sorelia Earhart. I wish they still made them because they are great. I have the shearling ones as I wanted something warm but personally dislike fur (even fake). I wish they were black though!

Of the two you've shown, I prefer the Cate, because it is tall and I think you need at least a high mid-calf height for snow boots, otherwise you step in a big snow bank and it goes in the top.

You can often find last season's styles on sale if you don't mind that they are not the newest style. Check on Amazon, which should have all of the 6pm stock too.

Every time I see the Cate boots or a few other Sorel options, I wish I still lived in a climate with winter. So, if they fit you comfortably, I'd go with those. The one caveat is whether they fit with your clothes well. Tall boots put more restrictions on what you wear than ankle boots.

I haven't found a Sorel boot that is comfortable for me; they hurt my feet/ feel way too big/ wide (and I don't have super narrow feet).

I am looking at alternatives.

My daughter lives in northern Wisconsin and she's a boot fiend and she loves her Sorels. Joan of Arc, I think? She's petite and wears a size 7.

I love my Sorels. They are not fashionable ones like you have shown. They are very warm and rated for -40 C. I need that here. Not sure how warm the ones you have shown would be but that may not be an issue.

Thanks everyone! I have a pair of 'proper' Sorel-Tracy snowboots fire winter and I wanted something a little more fashionable to wear inside and outside, so I might give these a try. I'll keep you posted!

Suz - have you tried Canadienne or Aquatalia? They might have what you're looking for.

I love the look of the ones you linked and would have a pair if they didn't have quite so high a heel. I wish it was closer to 2" than 3".
