I am really sorry I've been MIA around here... computer problems+depression+style/life rut+housebreaking puppy who was ripping clothes is NOT a good combination! I did bite the bullet and signed up for Sal's (alreadypretty) workshop on accessories this coming Sunday in St. Paul, Mn, and I know she is *awesome, * smart, kind and friendly, but I can't help but feel I made a huge and costly mistake I cant EVEN get the basics right, how on earth can I expect her expert help on accessories to work? And I have NO friggin' clue what to wear, and bring (she wants us to bring 3 items we are having problems with/questions about) over there...can I bring everything? sigh Whine/rant over....

Don't be intimidated. You're there to learn. Maybe the accessories will help you get the basics down pat a little better. Chin up. You will go and have fun! Don't worry. It's just fashion.

Deep breath and give yourself a hug! I think an accessories workshop is a great idea because it can give clothes you already have a new lease of life! Also, accessories generally fit no matter what body size fluctuations you may be having (which you didn't mention, so maybe you don't have any problems with that, but when I get depressed, my dress size fluctuates like mad...OK when I say fluctuates I mean rises). I predict you will get a lot out of it and I am certain you will pick up a few tips on the Basics too. Enjoy it!

I sense panic in your post, and I'm going to suggest that you not overthink things. You should definitely go to the workshop because I'm willing to bet it will help you buck up a little. It's okay to work on accessories even if you don't have every other area down yet -- have to start somewhere, right? Just grab three things without fretting about whether they're the exactly perfect ones to bring with you.

If you're feeling a little daunted style-wise, this workshop seems like a good way to get jump-started because Sal is a supportive presence. My best guess is that, like most things, you'll come away realizing that there are people who are further along in their style journeys and people who are not yet as far along as you are.

Plus, I'm dying to hear all about it! You'll fill us in after the fact, right?

Y'all are SO SWEET! ABC, yup, but I honestly am ashamed at how little I've absorbed for myself, even after being here so long I know how sweet and kind Sal is, with many people I wouldn't have even tried...Nicole, thanks too! That is true, they always fit, lol! I hope with my stupidity and fibro fog I can retain enough info to help April, thanks along with the others, yeah, I gotta start somewhere and nothing beats first-hand experience! ((hugs)) yes, I will write all about it!

Please don't be so hard on yourself. I think many of us feel like we are in a bit of a rut and are struggling with varied things.

I think signing up for Sal's workshop was a very smart thing for the reasons others have mentioned. Plus, it will be enjoyable!

Looking forward to hearing more and seeing pics of devilish little Angel.

Maybe this workshop will help with the clothing side. Accessories can tie a wardrobe together and this may be the link that will help.

Aww, like the others have said, you are there to learn - if you already knew everything, then you wouldn't need the class, right?

I hope that the class will give you some ideas and help you use those accessories that you bring to anchor things down. Do you have some FFBO's that you can rely on when your life gets really busy?

It's just clothing. Be nice to yourself! Whatever you wear or bring or do, it will all be fine.

You are too hard on yourself. Chances are all the other participants are feeling similar to you. I would be. Approach it with the expectation that you will learn some things and have fun in the process

How exciting for you, you will have a great time I'm sure!
For what to bring maybe reflect on which items you would like to wear but don't because you think they need something. Also, what do you feel most confident in.
From reading your posts I sense that you are very down in more than just style and fashion sense. Please remember not to be so hard on yourself, others just do not see you in that light. I'm certain that you have much to offer to others.
I hope you enjoy your outing and that you come away with some new ideas on how to better utilize what's already in your closet! Take care and remember to report back:-)

Righto--look at it like girl's day out, and not as having to accomplish a specific endpoint or prove anything. Sal sounds fun and energetic so let that be a pick-me-up. Like we sometimes go to motivational sessions but life does not necessarily turn around on a dime, no? But we feel better and it was a good thing to do.

Biscuit'sMom -- it's going to be just fine. So sorry you are feeling scared and down -- but you did the right thing by signing up, and your inner spirit led you there.

I love Tina's idea of reflecting on current outfits -- what ones seem lacking somehow, and what ones make you happy, and why.

As for what to bring with you, how about one that you thought you'd wear all the time -- yet somehow don't?

oh biscuitsmom, i've had bad times with depression myself and i completely understand how you're feeling. I'm sorry you're not feeling happier. But Suz is right about your inner spirit - i also know from experience that this is the EXACT thing you could use right now! It'll get you out of the house, out of your head, around new people and ideas and fun and some creativity and fun! Depression does weird things to your head (obviously), i've found that acting like a happy well person is one of the best things you can do for your health. Good for you for signing up!

Also, i don't know Sal but she seems very understanding and interested in helping ladies take care of themselves.......maybe you would feel better if you just sent her a short e-mail before the workshop letting her know that you're going thru a rough patch and kind of stymied picking a few pieces? She may have some ideas for you and you will most likely be more relaxed if Sal knows your story. Maybe you could just take a bag of things and let the other ladies choose for you!

Being depressed can make you sometimes not want to do anything new at all - even if it is good for you to get that break and new infusion of energy. I know when I was depressed I didn't even want to step out of the house for a movie or a walk in the garden - the anxiety would just not let me muster the energy to do it.

I understand that you are feeling overwhelmed and intimidated. I know Sal only through her site where I have read some posts, but she seems very warm & encouraging. Like others mentioned, maybe learning how to accessorize is the first step & may lead you to rediscover gems in your wardrobe. Also making changes in the way you accessorize is a small step in your daily routine, when I was depressed I would find it very overwhelming to do a wardrobe rehaul at that point - it would be just too much for me to handle. But accessories - now that would be a small baby step. Good luck!

Just read about the workshop on Sal's website and it sounds like a lot of fun! I think you'd be fine wearing a simple outfit, like a long-sleeved tee and jeans, so you can play around with the various accessories, scarves, necklaces and whatnot.

I predict that after it's over, you will feel so, so glad that you went. That you got out of your house and tried something new, and that you learned some things you can use. It's really going to be helpful! All you have to do is show up!!! Even if you just grabbed three random accessories, you will learn something great. Don't overthink it.

Remember, SHE is the expert -- there is nothing at all you need to know when you walk in the door of that workshop.

Just go! Sal seems so supportive and non-judgmental. In situations like this, it helps me to remember that no one is thinking about me or looking at me...most people are too wrapped up in themselves.

Thanks all! I'm running late, so I gotta run but will get back to this tomorrow, but truly am grateful for your responses I will write Sal also, when I can...love the idea my inner spirit drove me to this! The workshop is being held at Bibelot on Grand Avenue, I think the last day to sign up is Friday, please let me know if you're going. It's going to be small- registration is limited to 10 people and only 3 sign-ups so far. She's having another in the Chicago area next month. Love you all!

I am thrilled you have a new pup. That is marvellous news. I always smile at that term "housebreaking"; as in, who exactly is doing the breaking?
Have you posted about the pup? I'd love to hear about her or him.
