My life is progressively getting worse, in all aspects. So it's a good thing I didn't invest a lot in summer clothes.

Well at least you know where you're headed. JUST kidding. Humor is so important. Most of us have probably had some pretty crappy periods in life. I remember when my dad had a terrible accident and was brain injured (the neurosurgeons all said he would never be a "real human being" again). I knew not to give up on him. Not only did he make them eat their words, he still JOKED while he was in the nursing home getting rehab and all the way through his recovery. He only regained about 70% of his life back and has long since passed away, but he never lost his humor and his little sideways smile when he was pulling your leg.

Oh Annagybe, I know: I thought my forties would be a breeze; they were NOT. But I'm here to tell you that it gets better, strangely enough. I feel better and have much more fun at 64 than I did 20 years ago. Hang in there. You're entering a period of dislocation as confusing as adolescence in many ways. Things settle down on the other side. Meanwhile, treat yourself kindly. And, as you already know, it's good to laugh . . .

Hilarious dancing pony!

For what it's worth, I spent the first half of being 42 convinced I was falling apart and my life was nearly over. It was Not. Fun. I'm a few months from 43 and it is finally going steadily better. I think that there is just something really sucky about 42 but I'm convinced 43 will be fabulous. Here's hoping, yes?

Focussing on experiences that release positive emotions is always helpful. Finding yourself a positive mantra to replace the 'woe is me' ones has worked wonders for me in professional and personal life. Recommend it. Good luck.
