Sons new winter coat

Today I went shopping with my sister en our both kids to buy some winter clothing.
My son of 8 has needed an new wintercoat, and has chosen all by him self an new coat.

Its an trench coat lots of faux fur lined, it's a double coat my son can turn the inside out and wear it as an fur coat, what fits him very good and he look very cute in that coat.

Now we're at home and my son has let see his dad his new coat, but dad didn't like the coat because off the fur, and he asked me why we buyed this coat in his eyes is it a girls coat and not for boys.
but in my eyes is this a coat for both boy's and girls and can boy's wear faux fur too.

Have I done it wrong to by this coat for my son?

With kids, a lot depends on what works in the neighborhood. What are other kids wearing? I did not see the picture of this coat but traditionally guys wear fur-lined coats and hoods. Joe Namath, the football player, was famous for his fur coat. Little boys in, say, the fifties wore camel or navy Sunday best coats with little fur collars. None of this is likely to change Dad's mind, though.

That’s a lot of coat! I see that it is marketed for boys, so in that way you are right.

I used to buy my son shirts in the girls dept (when he was 3,4,5 years old). My sister would ask, critically “is that a girl’s shirt?” I’d tell her “no; it belongs to my son and he is a boy, so it is a boy’s shirt—this boy’s shirt”. You are right in that way as well; it belongs to your son and he is a boy, therefore, it is a boy’s coat.

I hope your son enjoys being warm and cozy in his new faux fur coat!
