Somewhat OT: V&A Quilt Pattern Maker

I know some of you are quilters out there and this is beyond cool:

The Victoria & Albert Museum (gosh I love that place) designed this site for you to upload a photo you want to turn into a quilt. It's pretty incredible, even if you are not into quilting.

Oh, that's so cool! I have (had? I have no idea where the disk is and I've gotten a new computer since I used it) a program that did that for cross stitch, even told you exactly which color of thread to use. I started a picture of my cat with it, but I never got more than 1/3 done - it was just so detailed and tiny. Something like 44 colors on a 4x6 piece of 24 count cloth (24 squares per inch - it's tiny). This seems a little more doable!

Yes! Dusty, I thought of you when i saw this. San, I was totally thinking the same thing about my niece and nephew!

I just love how the dress ends up looking like something cool and abstract.

A bit off topic, but this is an awesome exhibit, too. My Mum and Grandma came to visit me last month, and one of the major reasons was so my Grandma could see it. She's a longtime and extremely accomplished quilter, so was really happy. (Of course she sprained her ankle getting off the plane so we had to push her through in a wheelchair, but it was okay.)

Oh, and in the V&A gift shop, they were selling all these printed cotton fabrics, with designs taken from quilts in the archives. I got two which were from a 18th C. quilt but look so modern, very cool.

I love that museum. I wish I could see every exhibit there. How lovely your grandmother could see the exhibit!
