So I posted that my two recent eBay purchases (baroque printed skinny Joe Jeans and white Kut from the Kloth Diana skinny jeans) didn't fit and that I'd be returning them.

I thought I really wanted these. I was feverishly hunting down my correct size in them. And then it hit me.

Although I love the idea of white jeans in the winter, with the amount of snow we get and the slush involved, I'm really not going to wear them. Won't happen.

And although the baroque printed skinnies were positively beautiful, I'm not really into the skinny silhouette on my shape and have complained in the past that I feel self conscious in that fit.

So now that my frenzy is over and I've really thought about it, these two items not fitting was really a blessing in disguise. I'll get my money back and won't have two closet orphans.

Funny how that worked out...

ETA: So do you ever do that? Get in a frenzy over purchasing/finding something only later to wonder "why"?

Yup. I hear you. Only way I wear my white jeans in true winter is tucked into tall boots. And mine are skinnies! Mind you, I do wear them from March (on dry days) through December (or whenever the snow hits.) They just rest in the closet in true winter.

As for the baroques, I had the same feeling when the ones I ordered last year never arrived. Sad for a while and then it hit me -- I really didn't "need" them and wasn't rushing out to find a replacement.

I have 2 pairs of white jeans one functions as a wideleg but is probably boot cut and the other is straight leg. The wideleg pair is too short for me to wear with heels and looks dreamy with flats. For this reason alone its never getting to winter. I agree with Suz; the only way I am wearing the straight leg white jeans during the winter is tucked into boots (waterproof warm ones too )

I gave up on skinny jeans for that very reason. After months, it dawned on me that maybe there's a lightbulb moment here that I'm missing...skinny jeans while they come in my SIZE, they will never come in my SHAPE. I look like a turkey drumstick in skinny jeans, and it's not a shape I like on myself. I have always preferred to balance my top-heavy legs with boot cuts and flares. Straight Legs are the closest I can come to skinnies, and I'm not even the biggest fan of those.

I think once you let go of a thing, it's so much easier to bypass trying on that next pair because it's going to magically be "the one".

Ah Shannon, I get this all the time.

I mentioned on Mo's thread (about talking yourself out of a purchase), that it's usually the scarcity of an item has me thinking I can't live without it! When I come to terms with an item being sold out, or not in my size and put it out of my mind for a bit, the next time I think about it I wonder what on earth I was thinking to be so desperate for it!

I've had many such blessings in disguise where I realised later I only liked the idea of an item, and wanted it all the more because it was scarce or harder to get. As you say, things definitely do happen for a reason

Glad things worked out, Shannon. I think most of us get caught up in the chase of an item occasionally, especially when we see others wear it so fabulously.

I am glad this worked out!! And yes, sometimes, things are just meant to be.

For me, it was a rescue fromt he doante pile. I had bought another pair of black ponte knit trousers as I thought my other pair didn't fit anymore. The pair I bought just didn't get me, so I sent them back. Low and behold, I tried on my original pair, and they fit just fine!! So, I have my workhorses back, and they were free!

I think we have all found ourselves there which is why I envy my oldest son who love magazines and looks for gudance on what to invest in his wardrobe

. He litterally thinks on it for awhile, goes and tries things on leaving it behind. I don't think he's every bought something on the first try. He comes home and mulls it over seeing if the desire is still strong. Quite often right before he is ready to make the purchase he shares it with me to see what I think. I know that there are so many things he considers that I have no idea about and I only see the cream of the crop once he goes through his process. He talks himself out of a lot
.I think earning his own money at 16 and telling me he wanted to buy all his own clothes from then on made a huge difference. It was such a mature thing and not at all motivated because I was trying to direct what he bought because I let my children express themselves their way and never dared to pick out anything without them once they reached an age where they cared....

I so wish I was more focused like this. I think havinig to buy an entire wardrobe after weight loss made that impossible for me to do at the beginning but really hope to spend this next year concentrating on making more purposeful purchases. That is not to say I don't do this at all, just not with everything the way he does...

So happy for you that this worked out the way it was suppose to!!!

Yes, I think I may have fallen victim to this very thing this afternoon. I bought ankle pants. 3 pair. I may need to rethink this before we really get into the rainy season.

Von, I had to check to be sure I hadn't written your post. Yes yes yes I pant for some look, only to realize, it's so not me. Skinny jeans, I love you on everyone else, but the turkey leg/ice cream cone shape you give me is not flattering. Shannon, chalk this up to a great epiphany that cost nothing.

Oh yes! There are a number of items I have feverishly sought out only to be reminded (cos I did already know) that they are not me! Most recently I have become besotted with flared skirts but I have never looked good I one. I was watching ebay for a particular Zara one on white!!! I have come to my senses...I think:)

And i also had to have a pair of the jacquard/brocade style jeans! I found searched high and low, found them, bought them, shortened them and have worn them 3 times. In hindsight perhaps I didn't really need them!

Yes! Been there done that. Mostly with pants/jeans, but sometimes also with other stuff.

It has happened to me too many times to count. I have a vague recollection of trying so hard to find an item and being thrilled to finally find it only to be disappointed. I seem to have blocked the specifics from my memory.

I'm glad it worked out for you Shannon. You should put that money aside for when we meet to shop and lunch.

I always keep the tags on and the receipts handy. Many things come to my closet for a "visit" then head back to the store once I realize my mistake. (Post #3- can I play now?)
