Something New: Help with Pant Length

Hi Beautiful Ladies!

Today I bought a pair of Capri Pants with the intention of shortening them to the appropriate length. This is a first for me as I haven't worn clams or bermuda type pants before.

#1 is the original pant length as purchased.

#2 is rolled up to the length that I think is

correct and the most flattering

and

#3 is rolled up one more time, but I think this is not great.

Can you help with the perfect length for these please?

Also, do you think they need to be taken up by a dressmaker, or do they look ok rolled up (I have done a very rough job here and would do it properly and press them etc).

They are purely casual, not for work.

Oh, and what do you think of them.. should I keep them?

Please excuse lack of styling and bad hair... it's 9.00 p.m. and I think I can hear bed calling:)

Nr 1 and nr 3 I do not really like...:-((.
So I guess you have right, I think you can roll like nr. 2 if it is casual...Thus, when I had the thread with 7/8 length jeans for the lemming look(worn with boots) Angie (and others, too) called against rolling them up at all...so dunno, is rolling up pants dated? -see what others said!!

I'm no expert either but I like #2 best. I normally don't like the rolled up look because it always looks so provisional to me. So I guess I would shorten them for real. Do you have to take them to a dressmaker? Maybe you could do it yourself.

That blue is fabulous! I like #2 as well. FWIW, I don't mind it rolled, but I'm a casual gal. I guess it depends on what you wear it with. Although your wardrobe always looks so polished so maybe you should look into shortening them.

I like #2. It's always amazing to me how much difference shorter length makes when it comes to wearing capris. I think permanently shortening them would make them sleeker and easier to wear. You can probably do it yourself, although they may also need to be tapered if you do that (I think rolling helps keep the extra width in check but if you end up hemming them, you may or may not need to take them in at the bottom).

I think it depends on how slim they are - it is hard to say from the pictures. If they fit like skinnies then I would go with #2 and you will get a pair of clamdiggers. If they are wider and looser in fit I would go with #3 - just below the knee - and you will get yourself a pair of bermudas. In any case this is a gorgeous color - nice buy!
I would definitely hem them but I prefer streamlined look...

Hi Deborah! Really nice pants for you I think. The color is fabulous! It's hard to tell when pants are rolled, because the cuff makes them artificially tight from the extra fabric. I think if you had them cut off to look #2 or 3 they would appear wider than they do in the pictures.

So, that said, I think they would look nice cut, hemmed *and* tapered at length #2 OR cut and hemmed at the knee as per #3. Even though you'll be wearing these casually, I'm bettting you'll reach for them more often if they aren't just rolled up. You have such a beautiful, polished style!

I like 2 as well. you could always roll for now and decide later if you want to pay for hemming. I like them and love the color.

FAB colour for you, Deborah! I vote for actual hemming, at whatever length you choose, and tapering, too, if they are below the knee. With your polished style, you'll feel better that way. And you will look amazing.

You are wise women! Thank you for your recommendations. I prefer #2. #3 makes them shorts which I don't like so much. I will hem them as I agree I do prefer a more polished look and Im not that keen on the rolling them. Despite thinking they were going to be casual, I have been developing an outfit idea in my head for heels and a short jacket... hmmm they may well end up being worn to work after all
