Some skirted legging experiments

These are from the other day when I first got them. I'm not sure if they work, but they are quite similar to what Suz posted. Would love to hear thoughts and when I have time, I'm going to elaborate a bit more too. I found the comments about the differences between Suz and me quite interesting. I'm not much for comparing myself to others, and I hope Suz took it as I did, in the spirit of learning. And hearing everyone's perceptions was absolutely fascintating!

More on that later... For now, these very random styling attempts:

1. Old striped tunic

2. UWP hi-low sweater

3. Poncho sweater

4. Citron sweater

I realize I did kind of treat the skirt as a "loincloth" (thanks, Dashielle!). Anyway, make of these what you will!

I think they all work, and this look is a no-brainer on you! 2 and 4 are my favorites.

Hi Una - first I really like your leggings with the otk boots. The boots appear a washed black in the photos which decreases the contrast with the leggings plus it makes the short skirt deliberate and less obvious with less leg line. I like renditions 2& 3 best because of the angles created by the Hinge split hem and angular drape of the poncho sweater. That's why I wondered about how it would look with the tambrel. I'm a low contrast girl personally, so this is my opinion both 1& 4 look good. I would wear 1 in a heartbeat but put my long gray dana buchman blazer over it. What I look for is an inside or outside column of color with this style. It's dressier and always flattering but I am princess formal. But I really like 1 as is too because the gray stripe picks up the legging and black the boots and hair - nice color blocking and repetition going on but its a bit choppier because the of horizontal breaks although by going monochromatic you very nicely minimized that. Number 4 is the highest contrast but still works because the leggings/boots play so nicely together. The top is such a fun color and the sweatshirt triangle nicely points to the long line. Did you try your moto vest over that? Just for kicks. Sorry, I'm all about the "third" piece so feel free to ignore. Bottom line I like them all but for different reasons!! Fab styling!

Yes, for some reason, this look is a totally a no-brainer in you. I was trying to pick a fav of the lot but I cant. Maybe the light asymmetrical grey sweater. I've just been noticing tho your skeggings are grey! Are these EF? The grey seems just right.

I need to get a poncho sweaterish thing. These are good - like them all. And, in my not-very-humble opinion, I think certain items of clothing, certain looks etc benefit from not being over-analyzed (which you are not doing) If it feels good and you like it, wear it! If you question it, chances are it's not for you. It's just clothing *whistles off into the sunset*

I love all of these on you. My favourites are probably 1 and 3. I love the asymmetrical line of the tunic in 3 and #1 feels super cohesive and a bit sporty. They're all sensational.

I do think the OTK boots may be helping a lot here. The truth is, I would probably feel a bit out of my comfort zone in OTK boots to begin with, although with the right, sleek, flat ones (like the Weitzman's, probably) I HOPE I would get used to it and feel good. But I don't currently own any.

I definitely took the comments in the spirit they were intended and feel no upset on that score. My only question is how the heck can I evolve my style if I am limited to preppy?

Una, you look terrific in all these outfits. I see you as using the skirted part as a layer that helps cover when a top is a bit too short for regular leggings. Something like wearing a longer tee under the top to hang out below it. They seem totally natural for your style. The boot choices help too.

Joy, yes - instead of a butt vest we could think of it as a long cami without the top part.

I think the boots reduces the gap of legs so much that it takes away from the feeling of "mini" in the skirt. I also think you've created pretty edgy looking outfits that are very Una to me. I think these all look great!

Una, these are all great. I especially like 3 for the interesting angles. The OTK boots give the outfits a bit of edge.
And Suz, I don't think you need OTK boots to wear these. I've worn knee-high boots and booties with my skirted leggings.

I love your pictures...all of them...Wearing OTK boots is a good style point but as Firecracker says you really don't need OTK boots to wear this look...I wear mine with knee boots, short booties, sneakers, etc...Just wear them and enjoy them and don't over analyze the sweet little outfits that these fun pieces can make...

I really like all of these with the citron sweater being my favorite movie roll ready look! I feel like the OTK boots are what really makes the skirted leggings work. I wasn't sure why but I think gryffin explained it by saying it created a less obvious leg line. I think others mentioned liking Suz's taller boots in her post. You would think booties would be the go to choice but somehow the taller boots just work. Thanks for posting these for us to learn.

Is it bad that I kind of want a butt-vest just to wear with my OTK boots? (My fake skirted leggings work with other footwear but not my OTK boots because my skirt is too long.) You look so cool!

It's funny because I don't wear my OTK boots all that often and I worried they would be too much with the skirt - but I think you all are right that they offset the short length. Cake song altered to "short skirt and long boots"...

I agree with everyone else...when I saw your first picture with these I liked the over the knee boots. Booties could work too but it's a lot of leg line to expose I guess.

All these renditions are fab on you Una. It's funny but if I saw you in the street I think the "skirt" part of the outfit is the last thing I'd notice

#2 and #3 are standout! The OTK boots are brilliant here, they just seem to be the element that brings the whole outfit together, creating fab proportions and adding some 'weight' to your lower half to create perfect balance in the outfit. (not suggesting your top half is weighty... hope you know what I mean)
