Some New things. - YouLookFab Forum

Hi - I haven't been on much recently, I am still trying to get used to beig back at work and juggling mummy duties. I managed to fit in some clothes shopping a night last week and this is the first opportunity I have had to post since then. So here are a few links to the new stuff I bought, honest views please and they can also still be returned so open to suggestions.

Firstly I bought a black and white patterened dress for work. I tried it on with shoes and think it might be a tad short but I am thinking it is still ok?? I have tried layering a balck cardi on top, as it is actually a bit chilly in the mornings now.

I bought this skirt, which I thought would be good for casual wear with a simple cami and flats for during the summer, however after seeing my work colleague wearing a similar one in black the other day I thought I would try it.

I also got this grey dress which is like a jersey fabric, again my thinking was casual but maybe work it in to business dress too. It needs some accessories I think - not sure really. Same shoes in each pic, I am planning to expand when the sales start.

I love the first and last dress. They are fabulous. I do wonder about the length for work though. I have a couple dresses at that length that are fine until I sit down. They hike up a bit more and then I'm uncomfortable. Have you tried the sit down test?

I can't figure out what the skirt is doing in the front. It seems sort of awkward because of some detailing I can't make out in that front section.

WOW- love the black and white dress see what you mean about being a tad short though you have great legs would it work with leggings or lower shoes?

I like the skirt i see what alecia sees about the pleated bit in the front but it doesn't put me off i still like it on you and think it can be styled casual or for work.

Love the grey dress also think good for work and play

All are neutral pieces so will work with lots in your wardrobe x

What looks like a pleat at the front is acutally just a fabric tie belt. I have this problem with skirts and dresses because my legs are longer in proportion to the rest of my body! Thanks for the comments ladies. I will try the sit down test with the black and white dress later.

I really like the first dress. It's like an lbd with a little more punch! I like the houndstooth and the style/cut of the dress.
The ruffled skirt seems like it has lots of potential but I still have a lot to learn and can't seem to come up with any ideas myself, I just like it. No help at all...I know.
The last dress looks versatile too.

Thanks Jean - do you think then that I would be able to wear this dress in the evening, out for dinenr for example?!
I also have so much to learn, I still seem to make so many mistakes!

I think either dress would be great for dinner. You could dress up the jersey one with a blazer or a short-sleeved cardigan if you wanted to. The houndstooth one is awesome and I could really see going anywhere--dinner, lunch date, etc. I think it's really flattering on you.

The appropriate length of the dresses really depends on your work environment. If it’s conservative – these dresses are a tad short. Remember to do the sit down test :0)

IMO, it’s really more about the high skinny heels paired with the dresses that take it down a notch for office appropriate attire. As soon as you add a dressy flat, low wedge or low chunky heel to the short frock look, the picture changes. Makes the ensemble more modest. Does that make sense? .

I think all three outfits are great! I also like your purse. Is it yellow or more beige?

Are you concerned about the length? I imagine in your field this length is considered appropriate?

A dressy flat look like a good sales investment for you.

Thanks again ladies. Angie I understand what you mean about lower shoes, I will start to look for these on my travels. I woud be inclined to stay away from black though as I already have a few pairs of black work appropriate shoes. Julie I have yet to find a dress for the black tie event. Its less than 2 weeks away but I did see several things the other day when I was shopping that might work and reasonably priced too. All I have to do is get back out there and actually try a few things on. There are only 4 of us currently in my office but we will soon be merging with our other branch and then there will be more girls to compare to. My boss is quite young and dresses quite funky, if not sometimes a little inappropriate. So I think I can get away with this length as long as I am comfy in it. I am going to try the black and white dress with tights and heels and then flats for summer.

M2T, I like all your new items! You look wonderful in all of them, they show off your gorgeous legs. I absolutely LOVE the houndstooth dress, I want to steal it.

AJ - my bag is a light yellow colour, it is from Nine West. Medusa the dress is from Next, I was thinking of wearing it tomorrow to work, but now I am thinking I should save it and wear it out to dinner on christmas eve - or is it not dressy enough for that?!! I am still rubbish at picking event appropriate outfits!!
Angie - I just tried it on and doe the sit down test and it seems fine, if you see any shoes that you think will work for me, let me know. Thank you everyone.
