Some K or Rs including Nanette Lepore striped jacket

When I was at the Rack today I picked up a couple of dresses at great prices. What do you think?

1. Laundry print dress with bell sleeves. Does it look like it's wearing me?

2. Karen Kane black jersey dress. You can't really see the details in the photo but it has some nice draping in front. And it feels like a lovely soft nightgown.

3/4/5. The Nanette Lepore striped jacket. I've styled it just for fun with some BRIGHT pants and teal shirt. I also have pieces similar to what Vicki showed so I could do the column of white and also the cobalt pencil skirt. I'm inclined to keep, but what say you all?

I don't care for the first dress; the black dress is a no-brainer (KEEP!); I love the jacket on you but I wonder if it's a smidge too big? Or am I imagining things?

Jonesy, I bought three sizes and this is the largest. The other two were just a tiny bit snug in the shoulders and there was a weird crease that showed the outline of the shoulder pads. So it's this one or nothing. Do you think it looks like it doesn't fit?

When I saw that Nanette Lepore jacket on Vicki, I totally thought of you! Which means keep! It also means that I'm not fond of the Karen Kane dress on you. Black?!? I can't see the details, but it looks a bit big all over making it look frumpy to my eye. Can you size down? You have legs TDF, so the length is not doing it for me. Not sure about the first dress; the sleeves make it a "no eating", "no hand washing", "no doing anything" type of outfit, so are you okay with that?

Love the Karen Kane dress and may try to get to the Rack to see if I can find one.
I think the sleeves on the first dress are wearing you. If they were trimmed to be like the sleeves of the Karen Kane dress I'd say keep (and maybe even do some realy wild pattern mixing by wearing it with the Nanette Lepore striped jacket. J/K but the colors look like they would go together).
Maybe you could play with the jacket some more, but I think it works with the slim pants and vote keep.

I vote pass on the first dress, keep the KK dress (it'll be a workhorse) and keep the fun jacket.

I hope you and Vicki go out to lunch and both wear your jackets!

Not a fan of the first dress. The black dress is a keep.

The NL jacket is so you, but the fit seems a tad off - it's making you look like you're hunching your shoulders or something. I want to reach through my monitor and fiddle with it somehow. I'm not enough of an expert to know what it is. Maybe it's because you have a collared shirt on?

It does have a significant shoulder pad, and I do have a verra short neck. OTOH, I do tend to hunch my shoulders. And I would generally wear it with a tee of some sort....

Can we see it that way (with a tee)? It's that same issue with me and my neck, though I don't see your neck as short - certain collars just sit too high or too far forward on me.

I could be totally wrong though, as I often am!

Oh phew, I'm not alone on the shoulder issue. It's pretty minor, but I know you want honest opinions. Is the stripe placement different than on Vicki's jacket?

Here it is with a collarless top (for some reason it got all zoomy-inny -- sorry). Not much better, I don't think.

This may be a near miss.

I really like the Karen Kane dress. The fit and pattern on the first dress are great, but I think the wide flare sleeves are too much fabric. I'm almost tempted to suggest keeping the dress but altering the sleeves?

There you are and I think the NL works for you much better than it did for me (after further consideration, it's going back on Monday). Color and pattern thrive on you. Yet, I "get" what all the "shoulder talk" is all about. This and the pattern overwhelmed me, I believe. You can pull this off and I really like the darker blue hued shirt and bright watermelon pants with the jacket. I prefer it with the collar. Yes, on the black dress and a pass on the first one, because I think that eats you up. We don't want to lose Ms. ALGO in a sea of fabric.

Also, I had to step back to think about the blazer. To me, it's a little too much going on with separates because the pattern and colors on the blazer are SO bold. How about with a solid-colored dress?

Hmm, it is something about the shoulders...Maybe it's the sorta big shoulder pads, combined with the stripes, and a pinch too long in the sleeves? Maybe wait to see what Angie says :)?

I've been studying this more, since I'm sitting at the vet with nothing to do. I do think it's the stripe placement combined with the padding. And of course my own shoulder hang ups. Waiting to hear Angie's word!

Darn. I want to love that jacket on you so much since in theory it seems made for you. But in fact, the fit looks off. It makes you look very IT and not in a good way, more like a verging on Quasimodo way. (I mean that with the very best intentions, LOL, as you KNOW I think you are as stunning a woman as ever walked the inter webs!!)

I adore the black dress and if it feels as great as it looks, go for it. And while you're there, pick me up one, too, LOL!!

Can we see the bell sleeve dress with your arms down, please? After all, although the sleeves have a beautiful drama, it's not as if you are going to walk around like that all the time. And it may not overwhelm you at all if we see it that way.

The first dress doesn't seem like your style. I like the second. The jacket is a lot of look but I think it could work for you, especially over a dress. The shoulders don't bother me that much but it is a strong shoulder look.

I'm sorry but I'm not in love with any of them for you.

1) This is the best of the lot IMHO, so long as you can manage the sleeves. I like the fit/pattern.

2) Is this filling a wardrobe hole? Surely our MaryK of the "verra large" wardrobe must have other black dresses? The dress looks nice on you but it's just not as stellar as some of your other pieces.

3) I noticed the shoulder issue too. The stripes are making your shoulders look wider. That being said, it could work as a "boyfriend jacket" style over a sheath dress. Strong shoulders aren't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't fit like a standard tailored blazer. You could also look into having a tailor replace the shoulder pads with smaller ones.

The shoulder pads on the jacket are very square - I mentioned that when I was suggesting it. I think the cut might be fighting with your neck, Mary. What do you think?

I love the Laundry dress too! But do think that the sleeves are too long for petite you. The flare is very overwhelming. Alter the length?

I think it's going back. I want to love it, and it SHOULD be perfect for me, but the shoulders make my neck look even shorter than it is, and the colors are almost but not quite right for the things in my wardrobe that it ought to go with.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for the Laundry dress! I think I am going to be contrarian and keep it anyway because I need another fun going out dress. I will consider altering the sleeves but I think it looks better when I'm standing normally.

Definitely keeping the KK. I have an LBD wardrobe hole that it will fill nicely.

Just chiming in on dress #1 - fun and pretty pattern. I love crazy sleeves and you will just have to wear it out and not hostessing at home Black dress will be needing some black strappy sandals (j/k and thinking of your wardrobe hole). I think NL is intending that blazer to read 80's with the shoulder - why I have no idea......

What's with the 80's shoulder pads? Are they removable? I think the jacket is just too much shoulder! Too bad since the colors and pattern are just made for you! I would love to see the dress with you standing normally. I like bell sleeves (I have one old shirt with flare sleeves too) but you'll have to be careful when eating soup. The black dress is OK but I think I'd have to see it styled--it's kind of plain for your ALGO style as is. I'm sure it'd be up to MaryK fab standards with studded belt and gold bag though!

I'm too late, and have nothing new to add. I agree with the shoulders on the NL jacket, and the length of the sleeves on #1 fighting with your hot bod.

Wiser heads than mine have pronounced on the jacket, so I'm not touching it.

A great LBD is always a great find, and especially if there's a hole to fill, have away!

I'm in the minority in that I think the pattern placement of the first dress is just fab. Makes you look so twirly and dainty, like a dancer about to spring on to a stage. My only issue with it is not that the fabric overwhelms you but that I'd prefer to see your dainty wrists as well as your great gams. I think voluminous sleeves work best that way, if you do have slender, shapely forearms --- so think it could go up a smidge? Would make it more manageable for hand-washing etc too. But for dancing, no alterations needed!

I am in the minority here but I totally love the first dress and think you look awesome in it and you totally rock that black dress. The stripes and color of the blazer make me happy but the shape isnt perfect for you.
