Socks with Smoking Slippers

I purchased a pair of burgundy smoking slippers about 4 weeks ago, and it's already too cold to wear them sans socks :-(. Is it a style faux pas to wear these with trouser socks? Should I match the shoe color? I would probably only wear them with jeans. I would like to get some more wear out of these before the snow flies, but now I am wondering if they were a mistake given my climate.

I think it's okay to wear them with trouser socks. Why not? That's what I would do. I would probably match the trouser socks to my pants. Or, you could always go with a nude toned knee-high nylon. Then it would look like you have bare feet but you do have some warmth on your foot.

I personally would wear them with sheer nude nylon socks or knee-highs; I think trouser socks even matching in color add a frump factor...unless you deliberately go for sock look which I was never able to pull off.
For me they are mostly warm weather shoes...

I was just thinking about that this morning. Thinking of wearing some loafers today but I want to take a long walk after my studio visiting hours, and was wondering if I should put a pair of socks in my bag in case the loafers rub on my bare feet. I don't love the look with socks, but I might try nude knee-highs. Although I just realized I no longer own any nude knee-highs! I think I found a wardrobe hole.

I think we can be the masters if our feet but with style consequences.
It was an aha moment for me to realize that. So I'm more critical now of how certain footwear fits in. I really need to wear socks a lot, so I've had to rethink what works best with SOCKS vs. what works best with certain new footwear
if I want to achieve certain looks. That helped me figure out what to get in footwear capsule to mesh style and comfort needs and not be confused or disappointed.

I think the socks issue is one reason why I love booties and higher vamped shoes. In theory the nude hose sounds good but does it look weird to look like your feet are bare when it's cold outside?

Hmm, nude knee highs? Gosh that seems frumptastic as well as not that warm, but you ladies are so stylish I might have missed the memo on those coming back. (I mean my mother wears them! :-)) I suppose nude colored trouser socks could sub.

Susie, I agree with you. But I was looking for a fall alternative to ballet flats prior to having to break out the booties, which will stay on my feet for the next 6 months....

I have a couple of pair of shoe liner type socks (is there a name for them?) that help a bit with this problem, but I tend not to wear flats often because of this issue.

I've been wondering the same thing about my ballet flats. I wore them without socks but with my wool coat a couple days ago. It felt weird to wear a wool coat but no socks.

I really don't understand how sheer nude knee high socks can be frumpy if you get them in a shade close to skin color: they would look like bare feet but not as cold. I think the ones which are "tan" color maybe be still a fashion crime but not really nude ones.
Anyway I wear both sheer nude socks and hose and fell great in them...unlike in visible trousers socks with lower vamp footwear were they are on display.

Like Unfrumped, I have had to be more careful about how many pairs of flats I buy, because I can't wear them in cold weather without looking frumpy (I would need to wear them with socks). So I started looking more for shooties than for flats. I just don't think there's any way around the frump factor with socks and flats, unless you have a very high-vamped loafer. The other workarounds (no-show socks, nude nylons) still don't keep the foot very warm in the cold temps. (For what it's worth, I asked an SA at Macy's this very question: What kind of shoes would I have to buy so as not to look silly if I'm wearing socks? He said that even a loafer would not do; I would have to buy a lace-up shoe or a shootie.)
