You know, my grown son has a habit of referring to my clothing as Clownware.
(I wear colors, I mix patterns but far from Advanced Style) It must be true, though, because I was crazy about the socks and sandals look. Only, I don't actually own any interesting socks. I spent a whole year in nothing but ankle booties so it kind of makes sense for me.

I like it! That's not to say I will wear it myself. I've seen it somewhere before, maybe in France. I can't wear high heels, and am not sure socks would look right with flat sandals.

I think I Am willing to try a version of this. I admit I have never worn socks with sandals but, I'm getting ready to take a trip and I will be playing dress up with the outfits I'm thinking about taking this weekend. I will be trying a combo of socks and sandals. So call me Bozo

I have seen the socks with sandals on Pinterest. Never saw anyone wear themin person, One sees them in old movies, and if you have any photos taken during WW11 when hose were made of silk, and not available as the silk was from Jsapan, women wore ankle socks with all kinds of footwear. Not sure if like with evening gowns, wtc. but one did see a lot of it with daytime dresses, etc.

Then there was the hippie era where sox were worn with the Birkenstocks, especially on men.

Personally I, being a very practical person, wear sandals to keep cooler in warmer weather, so socks would defeat the purpose. On the other hand if one were going form hot to cool like in traveling, easier to pack socks than extra shoes. I might wear them with cery casual walking sandals or something, like if in cold morning then hot afternoon.

What's the point?
If I want that look, I'd wear booties.
Sandals make me feel airy and summery and socks spoil that.

I just can't do it. I just cannot. I think it is cute on some people, but I would be so miserable and self conscious it wouldn't be worth it. Plus at my age it would not look cutting edge- it would look frumpadump.

Awe not not frumpadump Linda Chase. This is what fashion is about taking risk for so long I was in an army uniform then just jeans and boots. I decided I jut don't care I'm going to at least try it if it fails it fails, if it succeeds then great I'm 40 and I want to be adventurous.

I like it, and have tried it with mary janes although not yet with open toed sandals. I spent a ridiculously long time browsing for patterned socks that still looked a tiny bit refined or subdued (because yeah, clown is okay, but I'm a slightly older one), and ended up getting textured solid color silky white and silver grey to experiment. (I have to be careful with white/black though because of the schoolgirl thing).

Even though solid colored is common I thought if some of the lark or cherry blossom smartwool socks were ever very discounted I'd totally at least experiment with them. Kinda like the socks attached below. Somehow I have this vision of an outfit that is almost all monochrome except for the socks.

It wouldn't work for me, mainly because of the area I live in. I remember years ago I had lived in Boston and then returned to the Midwest. In Boston, everyone was wearing over-the-knee socks with mid-thigh skirts. The skirts weren't super-short, and I was very young at the time, so it wasn't inappropriate or even particularly Lolita-ish. But when I wore that around here? People literally stopped, turned around and stared at me.

Looking nice and giving a nod to trends is definitely up my alley, but going full-on trendy in this area? I'm not comfortable with the kind of attention that can cause, and with kids in school, I don't want people laughing about their mum behind their backs.

All that said, though, I rather like the looks in the video, and I've seen bloggers do this really well. I love the look on the right person.

I think it can be done well. Notice that 3 of the 4 sandals she showed have a closed back. Angie wrote about this back in November, and I fully agree that it's a key element to making this work. If you keep the sock low contrast, it'll give you a similar vibe to booties; peep-toe booties if the sandal is open toe. I've sported it a few times, it's a fun alternative to booties though a bit more "cute" than what I normally go for

As someone who enjoys hand knitting socks, tends towards cute/quirky looks already, and hates exposing my feet to dirt and grime, I have to admit I'm very tempted by this idea! I only have one pair of sandals that I think it'd even possibly work with, but I might have to try it out. At least for the forum, if not out and about without prior approval.
