Socks with leggings?

I'll soon be wearing leggings with boots and I have some questions:

When wearing leggings with boots, do you wear socks? If so, over or under the leggings? And what fabric blends are best to prevent excessive sweating? I can't imagine wearing NO socks with boots!

My boots of choice with leggings will be my Italian knee-high boots or Nine West Synge slouch boots.

I wear the Nordstrom brand boot socks under my leggings. They're thin and synthetic.

I have some boots that are larger and need a thick sock, so I wear hand knit wool socks with those. The other boots, I wear some knee high socks that are a combination of animal fiber and synthetics. I'm more concerned about keeping warm than wicking sweat. As long as the socks don't show, I wear them over leggings.

I have some knee-high trouser socks which are also thin and synthetic; they may be perfect to wear with my leggings.

I assume your Nordstrom boot socks are knee high and stretchy?

Thanks, chewy. I do have some thicker boot socks that will be perfect once cold weather arrives.

I have a few pairs of GAP argyle knee high cotton/polyester socks I bought a couple winters ago. These socks stay up all day and are not constricting. I prefer to wear them over my skinny jeans and leggings. It helps to keep things tucked in.

Yes, they're knee high and stretchy. I only have black and grey, but I think they come in brown too. Pretty durable too.

I always wear socks with my boots. For leggings, I put ankle socks on under and taller socks on over (so as to not stretch out the leggings).

Thanks, Debbie! I lucked out and got those boots at TJM on sale for $119. There was one pair. My size. They are an Italian brand, Latitude Femme and are the softest kidskin leather I have ever felt! I have seen them retail for as much as $499! I waited until I got home to dance a jig!

Zapotee - I have those same socks from the Gap and they are VERY durable! I love argyle. Must be my Scots-Irish ancestry!

What do you think? Would you let them show if wearing with a pair of shorts (solid shorts and solid top)? Or it's tacky and a no-no...
There are more 'boot socks' but they're all tall...

I love those socks, Isabella! You could absolutely rock them with shorts. I would wear them with boot cut jeans and funky oxfords.

Nice boots, Barbara! I just wear normal socks in boots, preferably a wool blend for winter, but I guess your current climate is not as cold.

Scarlet, it is indeed not as cold in NC as it is in Germany! I loved the climate there, especially this time of year.

I tend to just go with whatever socks will fill out the boots - since I have narrow feet and most of my boots are medium width. But even though I don't have any useful sock suggestion - I have to say that I adore that first pair of boots. What a find! The second pair is nice too - but the first is so unique.

Hey Sandi. When I tried those boots on, I was holding my breath they would fit my narrow, fussy feet and slender calves! They are so fierce I can hardly wait to wear them with my ocelot (or zebra) pencil skirt. Italians just have a way with fashion and food and cars and wine and...... LOL

I'll check out my sock wardrobe and match socks to boots. Thanks for the suggestions.
