Do you have a strong sock game?

I do have lots of socks that I like - and a couple of fancy sparkly ones that get occasional wear.

I notice my sons pull up their socks with trainers and happily wear socks with pool slides, whereas I wear no show socks to try and lengthen my leg line.

Given it's mid winter and raining (again......) I could be up for some socks experimentation this week. I am going to try a couple of outfits featuring socks in a more starring role (not just being a bit player).

Here's some inspo for those of you wanting to feature socks?

Thoughts? Can I carry it off - that is yet to be determined.

I fully support your sock game! Great inspiration pics. I consider socks to be an awesome accessory as well as being functional. Looking forward to seeing your outfits.

Ooh, interesting!

When I first looked at #1 I wasn’t sure about it but by the time I clicked back round my eye had adjusted I guess because I quite liked it! The monochromatic effect with the socks adding some extra texture is cool.

#5 — jeans, fun socks, and what I interpret as house shoes — is a good match for my work from home style and I’ll be doing that a lot come fall.

Love your sock game and the way you wear them. My sock become shoes when I take off outdoor shoes inside. It is important that they look good with the outfit.

Sarah - I am not sure I could/would wear one, but I do like it. 3 and 5 are the most achievable and I wear birks and socks but only from a practical perspective not a style one.

Joy - thanks - the photos aren't me - just some I found online. And I too am conscious of occasions when I might have to take my shoes off and what my socks/tights game is. Especially when wearing a skirt and tall boots.....

So fun and practical for me. I provide in home service so need to remove my shoes and enter a home. I am comfortable with socks and Birkies but get stuck beyond that. I remember loving sparkley socks when I was younger so am glad to have an opportunity to re- visit them!

I have mostly worn no show socks or black socks or sports/practical socks for recent years. I am going to experiment a bit even for the gym.

You could really have fun with socks Indigoprint - your clients might find it fun... We have a staff member at work with a strong socks game - I often admire his choices.

I love socks! They’re cheap and fun. But I haven’t mastered the “new” way of wearing those pulled up athletic socks.
I do like a thin sparkly sock peeking out above a boot.

On visiting Japan I become very aware of how my socks looked, because you have to take off your shoes indoors. Uniqlo is a good source for well priced and attractive socks and sneaker stores for something a bit wild.

You’ve got long legs already, so I don’t see you having any problems with some bright quirky fun peeking out at your ankles.

In the winter I absolutely wear socks. Whether I want low contrast to lengthen my legs or high contrast tun really depends on the bottoms I’m wearing. I recently purchased some ankle socks with ruffles. I would have hated them as a little girl, was fine wearing them around Boston (where they were an emergency purchase) and on our flight, but have yet to pull them out in Berlin.

I like the look of fun socks with sandals and my kids all wear socks with everything. That said, I am not sure I have ever been tempted to do socks with sandals (except socks with birks around the house). I like it but not sure it is for me.

I do not have good sock game ... DD does as does DH and I love the look. I think you could definitely add this element to your amazing style Sal!!

Aside but just recalled and it's cute: DS who has a style all his own once said when he was little, after I commented his pants were getting too short, with dramatic eyeroll: "I don't need new pants Mum that's what SOCKS are for" lol ... He spotted the sock zeitgeist in advance

I do not wear socks unless I am lounging, but am cheering on everyone's fun sock game from the sidelines! Super cute

I like my socks to go with either my pants or my shoes but other than that they can be pretty plain. And I usually don't mind if they peek out of my boots a little bit. With lower shoes I don't want them to show. I did wear some rag-wool-style with birks last fall (a la #5) and felt quite fashionable so that might all be changing!

I really need socks when it’s cold. If my feet or ankles are cold, I’m cold. I have lots of socks, with a variety of colors, patterns and thicknesses. Of your examples, I especially like #3. And for me, #5 needs hand knit socks. For others, machine made socks with Birkenstocks are fine, but not for me.

Thanks - some good advice. I will do what I can over the next week or so and report back with a post. I am trying something new today.

I am not sure if it is for me - and whilst I think trends/fads/fashions are for anyone who wants to try it - I do wonder if this is more of a teenage trend (or some of it). But the fun is in taking something you already have and trying it a new way....

Angie - I can't believe you don't wear socks!! What about under boots in the winter? I love my Smartwool socks - some are very plain and they are so cosy under boots.

JAileen- your handknit socks are gorgeous....I do wear birks and socks to and from yoga in the winter or when lounging and then needing to go outside briefly. I haven't ever tried to make them stylish but this could be a challenge this week!!

I’ve noticed “the kids” around here in Chapel Hill (college students) wearing socks with Birkenstocks like your pic. I have not had the guts to show any socks yet, but please post when you do.

Sal, I cannot find socks that stay on my feet as I stride my fast stride. They ALL slide off my heels and bunch uncomfortably at the balls of my feet. They don't make socks for narrow feet. I've given up.

I wear nylon and silky knee-highs across neutrals. They stay put and do not move! Love them! I also wear boots/hi-tops with fleece linings so that my feet stay warm and cosy in the ice and snow. Sorted

That's frustrating indeed - pleased there are fleecy boots that work then!

I will report back Lana - I had some fun socks when I was younger. I also had some awesome leg warmers... (will that trend return?)
