So, what other "not you" items are you considering?

Angie's recent post got me thinking about this.

Lately I've been contemplating getting all kinds of items that I wouldn't normally consider. Like the grey suede jacket I posted, and now cowboy boots. Eh? I did grow up in the Southwest, and my family is a little bit down-home, but we're not cowboys. The only time I ever had cowboy boots was when I was a little kid. Yet I have been contemplating buying a pair of traditional-style black leather cowboy boots to wear over the winter... or perhaps the nice light tan suede ones... what is wrong with me? I'm not a western-style kind of person and I hardly own anything beige except a trench coat. And since I live in the UK now I think I might feel like a walking stereotype as an American in cowboy boots. Certainly my husband would be highly amused.

I think all you super-stylish people are corrupting me...

I know the feeling Mander Although I don't want cowboy boots, I've rushed lemming-style for midis. Oxfords might be next (though they must be heeled). I have been thinking about them for months, Angie's post is sending me over the edge. And I thought I didn't follow trends...

I am contemplating a false fur vest for next winter. That would be quite a departure from my toned down style.

A blazer! I'm not sure if it would have crossed my mind to get one, had it not been for YLF. Although wanting one and finding one that doesn't make me look stupid are two different things....

You'll look great in the right cowboy boots, btw -- it's all in how you wear them!

Heh, I'm a city girl from the east coast, and I've never really done western style, but I love my cowboy boots! Kinda funny, since my husband is from Texas and doesn't own any, but he loves the look on me.

I was in Nordstorm Rack yesterday and bought a pair of Joe's Jeans black ponte legging jeans. I am not a leggings person at all, but I'm going to try these out with some things from my closet and see if they're worth keeping. They are very, very comfortable.

Definitely give the boots a try! I think they'll be pretty versatile. I actually went Western myself. I bought a super cute purple and orange flannel shirt from American Eagle. I have never owned anything Western in my life but I just loved the colors and I've been seeing a lot of flannel layered under striped tops and cardis. So here goes nothing!

I've also been contemplating JCrew's Minnie ankle pants in red even though I've never worn ankle pants or brightly colored pants. Yikes!

I want to learn more about scarf tying. Astrid and lots of others here are so inspiring with what they do with scarves.

Watching Kari's posts makes me long to try hats someday but I don't think I could pull that off yet.

And as funny as this sounds, I'd like to try some subdued neutral tonal outfits. I want to see if I can do neutral without being boring. One of the other fashionistas on my mommy board is all about the cozy luxe neutrals with chunky oversize pale neutral cardigans and she always looks so wintry chic. I always tend to do bright colors and bold patterns so it would be nice to shake things up a bit.

I'm with Natalie - trying new color combinations that are more neutral based. I have paired brights with a neutral in the past, but ever since reading brights with black is a more dated look, I've been trying alternative color schemes. (this is a big part of my wanting gray pants this season)

I will confess that I seldom ever try things that are "not me." At this point, I know my style and what I will wear. For example, I will simply never wear a pussybow blouse. I owned a really cool one for a very long time and *never* wore it. It just wasn't me. Luckily (or unluckily) there is plenty to covet that IS me, in different shades and shapes and textures, without venturing into the non-me territory.

I used to think I looked horrid in camel colored clothes, but yesterday, on a lark, I tried on a camel-colored dress (verging toward gold) and it did wonders for my complexion. I think I'm going to try more earth tones in my wardrobe!

I've been inspired to get out of my timid rut lately, and try some new trends this season. I am not normally a super trendy person, but I thought I'd have some fun. Recent purchases:
- skinny red jeans (this should be interesting)
- tights in colours other than black
- waist surrendering tops - empire waists and a-line free flowing numbers...love them!
- and actually belting a dress

A pair of Georgina Goodman ... platforms! I'm so not a platforms person but there's a pair that is in desperate need of a good home. She so wants to move in that she showed up in my inbox to entice me, and had the audacity to go on sale. A very good sale.

After reading everyone's posts, I actually see how not-me many people's lemmings are, and therefore how actually-me my own are! I find it extremely interesting that our choices, even as we venture outside of our comfort zones, seem to fall in line with our personal styles regardless of whether we see it that way.
