So, the skinny BF jeans came

And both are good in their own ways, but I don't think either is a home run.
(pics 1 -3) The Blank NYC are a good wash (real life BF agrees lol). Also, the length is awesome, as they can be rolled up or worn full length. But the distressing is too much, with full rips across both knees.
(pics 4-6) The 7FAMK are sooooo comfy, and I love the button fly, but they are short, and as the real life BF pointed out, the distressing on the rear is way too 'pre-planned, matchy' looking.
I may, at this juncture, look into a pair of 7FAMK on eBay that are 31" inseam instead of the 27" of this pair.

Oh, and for the record, Zappos had correct inseams on both these jeans, whereas the own companies' websites did not!

Mo, I love the 7FAMK pair, but I don't think either has enough slouch or taper - though you look great in both!

Thanks Una, but for me the slouch unfortunately happens in the butt and legs but my upper thighs still fill the jeans - makes for a much bigger look all over

At this point I kinda wished I'd grabbed these jeans that I thought was a so-so fit on my drive across country (for only $35!)

I think the 7s look really cute on you. They look more like bf jeans. But they are definitely summer jeans with the cropped length. And it's true the distressing is a little obvious but I don't dislike them. If the price is right I would keep them for the summer as they look great around the ankles (not too wide like the Dillard's ones -- also those cheap ones had super obvious borderline cheesey distressing so I think you made the right decision).

I agree with what you've said... who knew a proper BF fit could be so tough? Fingers crossed for you if you try the 7s off ebay. FWIW, I feel like I'd have a similar problem if I wanted slouchy instead of baggy - hard to surrender body parts that want to keep fighting, lol.

Mo, have you tried the American Eagle straight jeans? I have 3 pair of the light wash. They are 99% cotton I think and 1% stretch. I love the lower rise (about 7.5 ), the distressed but no holes look. My DH loved the first pair so much he said I should get more. (how often does that happen?).

Mo, perhaps a softer lighter weight fabric would work better so that they drape a bit instead of bag. I see what you mean about the butt area. The ones you posted in the follow-up look good but I love your good jeans. I forget the brand but the ones with the flap pockets. If I had jeans that looked that fabulous, I wouldn't look for others.

It's hilarious how BF commented on your BF's. I had a good chuckle

#1 is too tight all over.

#2 is better but also snug to my eye. I do realize that you want very fitted BF jeans though. That in itself is a look. I would have suggested one size up on the 7's but the distressing is a little off as BF mentioned.

I really like the 7s on you but I agree that the distressing is off on this pair. I think this is the direction I'm going to have to do in my search for BF jeans as well, narrower. I've tried on so many pairs and none look good on me.

The hunt is still on, but hopefully narrowing. Una, I love the look of those, except the inseam. I'm looking for 29 or 30.
Going to give the 29" inseam ebay 7FAMK's a go now that I have asked about returns and then maybe another pair of Camerons.
Angie, it was funny to have the IRL BF commenting on the BF's! Like many SO's here, it's not his favorite look, especially if the distressing is out and out rips.
We'll get there . . .

EDIT: aw, heck, I just went ahead and got Denise's Cameron's off ebay and put in a bid for the 7's. I sooooo want these to be 'the ones'.
