So much for waiting

I had planned to wait for the fall and winter stuff to really be out before shopping. I figured mid-September and would wait patiently to see the offerings.

Which is why the fact a pair of booties on my way from ?Nordies meant I was a little off plan. Then I browsed the GAP. They restocked the merino turtleneck sweater Angie had recommended last year but my size was already sold out, so of course, I picked that up in black, and the burgundy and ink sorta hopped in my cart. So did 2 tee shirt sweaters and different cardis for a modern twinset look. And a few crew necks that wear well with scarves. Hoping to figure out scarves for the third piece, and hoping the crew necks and turtlenecks will work under jackets. We'll see when they get here.

Several pairs of shoes are calling to me, but I have resisted so far.

Sigh. So much for patience!

I hear you Thistle. The temperature here dropped by about 10C in a week so I went from not even thinking about fall to shopping for boots and jackets. I tried on a few pairs of mixed media faux leather jeggings yesterday (washable as opposed to real leather) and bought waxed jeans in burgundy last weekend.

Sounds like you got a few harder to find items so accelerating your fall plan worked well.

Thistle when opportunity knocks woe to she who ignores it!! EF had some sales and I duplicated skirted leggings, bateau neck cropped top which makes it a two piece dress. Bloomies had EF waxed black jeans on sale for 75% off, I took a flier because I've been on the hunt for 2 years and lo and behold they were perfect and at that price I ordered a back up pair. Amazon has theory jackets on sale as does rack and the charcoal selata and gabe black are in my closet - now they are sold out and I got them for about 50% off. Sometimes you just have to add those things you have on your list, not wantsies, when you see them especially when they are at a great price. Sounds like you were the savvy shopper even if timing was not ideal!! Hope it all works out for you!!

Those sound like pretty sound purchases, even if you are making them earlier than you anticipated. I had a little fun with NAS, but not too much, and a little fun shopping in Amsterdam, but no too much. I'm eyeing a couple of things on the Anthro site because I have a birthday coupon, but I'm being slow about pulling the trigger because there's nothing I really need, and I'm feeling quite picky these days. With so many fab burgundy things coming into the stores and burgundy being one of my favorite colors to wear, I suspect that something will tempt me sooner rather than later!

Haha! Logically, I know that more wonderful autumn/winter merchandise will be coming down the pipeline, but I'm also having a hard time resisting this initial wave. For a person who dresses in autumn colors and loves layering, it's like being offered your first glass of water after a trek through the desert!

I never shop in August. I have to recover from the July NAS - and uniquely this year - I did SO MUCH shopping abroad - so I'm easing myself back into Fall shopping later in Sept. I'm excited though. I love shopping in Sept, Oct and Nov. I already see AMAZING stuff.

Thistle, you're a cold-weather resident so getting ready for fall and winter in August makes perfect sense to me. I am getting restless because most of my NAS buys aren't going to get worn here until late September or October.

Loft had one of their 40% off sales recently which I jumped at - three of the four items are getting returned, though. Other than that I've been pretty restrained. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that some of my wishlisted items at Nordstrom & N-Rack are going to still be available in a few weeks when it's Triple Points Weekend. DSW is also doing some sort of double-points promotion in September that I got a postcard about, so I'm hoping that I can pick up some booties for fall then.

I think when you know that your size tends to sell out, it's best to buy when you see, just keep an eye on the return dates in case you change your mind.

I've been good this month and need to be after NAS. Cool weather clothing won't get worn until at least the later part of October or even November.

I was planning on cooling my heels after NAS, but only made it about 3 weeks. BR had so many great fall pieces that when I got the 50% off cardholder offer, I couldn't resist. I also have my eye on a couple pair of shoes but have managed to restrain myself so far.

I've been trying to cut back on the shopping myself and have been pretty good, except for shoes. I bought quite a few pair, but they were basics: classic black and nude heels, classic black and nude sandals. I see the same thing going on with you: it looks like what you bought is basics, and you need them in your closet, regardless of when you buy them. You need to make sure you get the size and color you want!

After my major NAS shopping spree, I have been really good in August. I have also been really busy in August. Right now there just is no time to indulge in shopping (although I would love to be able to do so). I hope to do some shopping after Labor Day.

By the way, it sounds like your purchases were all good ideas. I love the idea of tee shirts with cardigans. It is such a comfortable look. I have admired the turtlenecks on others. So it sounds like you did really well.

I fell off the wagon twice this month.

I told myself I wasn't going to buy anything new until I did an inventory of my closet, but I did anyway. I did manage to get a few pieces that should stretch my summer pieces into winter, but still. And then my shoe/boot extravaganza with my DD should've waited too, but we were traveling and not sure when we'll get back to a city with actually shoes to buy.

I have to confess that I started reading your post several times until you write Gap has the same turtleneck as last year , that is when I go to the Gap site and never get to answer your post :0)
I agree with others. Although September brings more selection you have a long cold season ( as do I) and if you can buy things that are already in your wish list and get ahead in the game, why not.
