so many clunky boots

I am just starting to make a wish list. I was shocked at how many combat boots and clunky boots there are. Unfortunately living in Los Angeles I have virtually zero need for colder-weather boots at this point. I feel like I am still living in athleisure and mainly WFH ....so will be sneakers for me!!! Do you all like all the combat/clunky boots? Interesting!

I'm not sure it's a fair comparison, as I live in a four season climate, and fall/winter dressing is my favorite. I've always loved chunky and combat-type boots. Indeed, in college I actually wore genuine combat boots from the military overstock store downtown, and I just ordered my first pair of Doc Martens since college (with a 2" heel, so not quite standard Docs, but not high enough to not be all day shoes).

Additionally, I teach and we were in the building full time last year, despite the pandemic, so I haven't had to change the wardrobe due to WFH. Given your location and situation, I don't blame you for not finding the boots appealing. I'd be eyeing sneakers, too!

Echo-- I am envious! I wish I had some nice cold weather to dress for! I love sweaters and boots and coats, but just no need for any of that for me as it just seems to be getting hotter here!

I do love chunky boots, they don’t love me back, so it’s a complicated relationship. Very unfortunate situation for me, Such boots can be worn in my climate 5 months out of 12

I live in Los Angeles and clunky / combat boots are a staple for me. Its maybe max four months where I don't wear them all the time. In the right circumstances I'll still wear them in the summer.

We used to get cold weather. I like boots, but not necessarily combat boots. I do have several pairs of Timberlands. I like boots because my feet get cold, and with ice, good footing is nice.

I'm in the LA area, too (but close to the beach, so it stays cooler). Last year, I wore ankle boots all winter. I am definitely interested in something along these lines.

Combat boots are an essential for me. I’m in No Cal. My brother is in LA. I’m not sure if I would or wouldn’t wear them there. I run cold and think 70 degrees is sweater weather. In terms of warmth, sneakers and boots are the same for me. But you see so many sandals in LA, always makes me want to wear them when I visit my brother.

I love Combat boots - my daily favourite for 8 months of the year. I do live in a 4 season climate though.

My climate (in Australia) is similar to yours and I wear my combat boots with dresses and skirts about 8 months of the year. My boots have some feminine details - the pearls on the black boots and the statement laces on the suede, so I don't feel that they are too heavy for my style. I love them because they are incredibly comfortable and a classic that whilst trending at the moment never go out of style.

I love a good chunky boot! But I like more streamlined, refined boot styles as well — it depends on what pants/jeans silhouette I’m wearing and the occasion.

Around here I can wear boots approx.
5 months or so out of the year. Then a very short transitional season, so I’m quickly into sandals.

Not for me, I prefer refined minimal booties that I can wear anytime. Plus, I hate fooling with laces- high arch/instep + laziness!
If I lived in LA I don't think I'd own any shoes but sandals and 1 pair of sneakers for biking

Boots are definitely on my list, and I love these - a slightly refined combat boot. Part of it is that I have come to need walkability in almost all of my footwear because of how much I walk these days, so ultra refined booties - much as I love them - just won't get the wear.

I love a stompy Boot more than most, but I do agree the assortment is very rugged this year. I’m pretty set for boots right now, but I definitely noticed how many there were. I’m personally not crazy about the ones where the lugged part extends behind the back of the heel. And I’m careful about heel height for myself, so some have too much heel for me too.

Stompy combat boots are a Trendy Classic. Big nod to the '90s trend. Fabbers, friends, and my clients really rock them!

I prefer my own footwear less chunky, more refined, and not black. I will try these because they look just refined enough.

Lug soles and stompy boots for the win! They are true classics. I love wearing them with midi skirts and dresses.

Ha, hmm, it didn't even register on me that things were skewed that way. I did put 2 colorways of a very stompy boot on my wish list to try, though, as I too am a fan of this somewhat dystopian aesthetic, LOL. I also added a dressier black ankle boot. Love having options.

If anyone ever learns of combat boots that are made of a *soft* leather and not with a crazy thick sole, PLEASE post immediately...

I love the look of such boots but they are all too rigid and too much sole for my foot problems/balance-walk-with-crutches issues.

I used to have more refined combat boots - but they didn’t fit my insoles ( zipper on the side - fun style). So far I haven’t seen something similar with extra space for insoles- sneakers to the rescue.
