Maybe hearing about this will cool some of you down.

We are having a cold patch at the moment, with nearly freezing temps last night and a max of 13 (55) according to the weather site (my outdoor thermometer registered a bit higher, but it is measuring my patio). At about 4:30 when it was 12 (53) I was wearing
- a shapewear cami (worn only for warmth)
- a turtleneck long sleeve T shirt
- a turtleneck sweather
-a warm heavy sweatshirt material jacket
and I still felt cold.(about 16 (60)(inside) For the first time this winter I asked DH to turn on our gas fire to warm us up for our evening meal. (we have turned it on before, but not that early)
My DD6 however at 4:30 was wearing jeans and her singlet!!! ( though by bedtime she was wearing multiple layers)

I know all you hardy northern hemisphere types won't consider this cold at all (Inge excepted!). Do you dress more like the daytime DD or me? Do you turn the heating on?

I'd consider that chilly! I'd dress more like you than your DD. I'm always cold.

Our heat is on for at least 8 months of the year - 20 degrees. I run VERY cold. I wear thermals when I need to and have an excellent assortment of warm clothing - now that I have learned my lesson!

I am always the most covered person in the room. In Summer I find a/c a HUGE problem. I can't wear sleeveless breezy anything when it's hot if the a/c is on inside. I can't even wear sandals because my feet freeze. I can't stand cold a/c!!! I would rather be in hot humid weather.

Since it's 95/35 here, you have no idea how good that sounds! But 16 inside sounds really chilly to me. Even my stoical, put-on-another-sweater-dear mom kept the thermostat at 20 throughout my Canadian childhood.

Funnily enough 16 inside and outside is pretty normal for me at some points of the day. (I don't put the heater on - and am also of the "your jumper on" school of mothering!) But maybe the extra cold outside made the same temp seem colder!

We don't have central heating, so the gas heater just heats up the family/dining/living area. My bedroom is freezing!!! We are on bottled gas, so we try not to use the gas heater too much. We have some little electric heaters for small areas.

Cold A/C is annoying in summer, Angie. I had a job where it was too cold to go barelegged in summer and I wore a suit, jacket and all.

On a fashion level, I am not wearing my new fashionable items much (zippy vest won't fit under coats, blouse would be covered up, and cotton jacket not very warm, though I did wear it a bit today) and am majoring on turtlenecks. Have bought 3, 1 sweater type and 2 T shirt types, but have plans to acquire more!

I prefer this weather to a heatwave. No contest!

We are in the 80s-100sF everyday right now. But I work in a/c and am on team cold. I routinely wear 3 layers to work (cardigan or blazer + t-shirt + tank top and jeans and shoes with socks on the bottom half). I don't wear sandals in a/c, my feet are too cold. The other day it was 95F and I layered with a winter sweater and boots to work. Everyone commented all day long that I was wearing a heavy sweater, but at least I was warm in the a/c. I can only wear dresses or shorts if I am outside in the heat all day long. Even though we have hot weather, I own very few hot weather items since I always run cold and am often in the a/c.

For winter, I layer thermals underneath my clothes everyday and regularly wear scarves indoors. And fleece lined tights let me wear dresses in colder months.

It's high summer here in Los Angeles, and I am wearing long sleeves, a sweatshirt material blazer, and knee-high boots. I'm like Angie: a/c is a big problem in summer - the hotter it is outside, the more painfully frozen it will be inside.

DH and I don't turn the heat on in the winter, though, because the expense seems unnecessary in our climate. We just layer up inside the house with big, cozy sweaters, pants, and down comforters for bedtime.

This heat-adverse, cheapskate Canadian normally keeps her thermostat at 18-20 during the winter. 16 does start to get to the point where bundling up just doesn't cut it anymore. But I absolutely refuse to turn on the heat until extra layers aren't working. I do not see the point of keeping a house so warm that you can wear beach clothes in mid-winter.

You already know I'm with you on this, Anne. I'd be wearing several layers too if it was 16°C inside, and I would turn on the heating;-)

Talk about bundling up because of the a/c always reminds me of my husband's way of handling skimpy dress when he taught high school.

His solution was quite simple; instead of trying to mandate a dress code for his female students, he just brought a screwdriver from home and used it to adjust the a/c thermometer in his classroom. After 15 minutes or so, the under-dressed girls would be begging to go to their lockers to grab a sweater and sweatpants. When they would ask why his classroom was so cold, he would just commiserate with them about the wonky climate controls in the building. After a week or so, he had most of the young women sufficiently trained to wear enough clothing to avoid distracting the young males in the classroom.

His tactics worked well for him; he consistently was given Teacher of the Year awards because his students adored him.

Gaylene that is a funny story. I am always amazed at those young English girls who go about in the cold nightclubbing in skimpy dressers. Must be made of sterner stuff than your DH's students!

Well you have all been very agreeable. Noone has yet said that they go about in short sleeves at those temperatures, which I have heard said in other contexts.

JR and Rae, I am pretty much with you on the heating myself. I almost never put on the heating in the mornings, and it is about 12-14 C inside. I think I was so cold yesterday afternoon because the kids kept coming in from outside! DH is a bit fond of having a little portable electric heater on while he watches TV at night, whereas is it is just me, I just cuddle up under a rug.

I get cold really easily in both summer (AC) and winter. The house is kept around 68-70F (~20C) in winter, but I'll wear a wool sweater or doubled-up layers and still feel cold. In the summer I bring a cardigan to work and just deal with cold feet.

That's my general motto, actually--if the temperature is below 70 degrees, I'm going to feel cold unless I wear more layers than I want to. I'd rather wear cashmere against my skin and be cold than layer a lumpy cotton tee underneath it.

I run cold too. I'm a lot like Angie in that regard. The rest of my family seems to run warm, so I'm always way more bundled up than they are!

I believe 75 degrees is sweater weather. In deference to summer, I have switched out thermal shirts for long-sleeved tees under my top of the day. I still don one of my down coats over the whole she-bang...

It may seem daft but the outside temperature affects me even though the inside one may be the same. For instance in winter the clock thermometer in my room says its 22c but I'm to be found sitting in bed fully dressed trying to keep warm. However yesterday was really hot outside and by 10pm with all the windows open my room had finally dropped to 22c and I'm lying on the bed with no duvet and lightweight pyjamas on. I think if it dropped to 16c I'd be bundled up like you too x

Anne I hear you. Our lows have been between 3 and 6 degrees with a top daytime temp of 12 this week. I freeze! Our heater is on non stop at the moment. My outfits are currently all made up of layers to cope with the cold and then the heating at home and in my office...while Master 9 and DH run around in tshirts!!
