So how many denim jackets does a person need?

After seeing the answer to almost any question be "add a denim jacket" and everyone rocking them so nicely I've been in search for the right denim jacket. So now it appears I have a few too many. Below for your consideration
1 Relativity Brand: Faded, not too cropped, I think it fits nicely ?
2 Polo Ralph Lauren: SOOoo soft (a little stretch too), faded, cropped more, but not sure about the 3/4 sleeves? What about removing sleeves for a vest?
3 Tria: More of a blazer with great pleats - I wear this alot and duplicated it in white
4 Ann Taylor (purchased mainly because the price tag said originally $248 and I paid $16) again more for work - dark denim, lots of buttons and zippers and gizmos, but no collar
5. Gap: too cropped I think and I only just noticed it has jean butt pockets on the front ??
6. Old Navy (free from YLFer because I loved Claire in hers so much) Again no collar and 3/4 sleeves.
7. Lucky Brand (bought on super sale even though it's too big - Oh just realized it's a MEN's XL!! But too short for DH - needs a short torso'd man
So I think I"m right getting rid of 5-7 at least. Suggestions on #2?

What, denim jacket quadruplets no more? The answer to your question is "just one more", lol!

I'm having a hard time seeing the details on 3. 4 and 5 because they're so dark. Oh, and ROTFL about the 'butt pockets' on the front of 5! I'd start by ditching the men's one #7.

Which ones do you love? Which ones have the best sleeves for scrunching? That is the all important litmus test. Don't you want at least one cropped one for dresses? How are the no-collar ones working for you?

I love #2 the most. The length, the fading... everything looks perfect

I like #2 and 3 the best. I vote keep one of the cropped jackets to wear with a dress, I like the fit of #5 better than #6, plus it has a collar and full length sleeves which is more versatile despite the "butt pockets" lol. The men's jacket has got to go!

I like #2, 3/4 sleeves don't bother me because I scrunch them up anyway.
#3 is nice for a longer jacket if you need one.
#1 feels too boxy and big for you.
I like #5 in principle but if those pockets bother you then it has to go.

I like 2, 3, and 4. Question though - do you wear denim jackets with skirt/dresses or with pants? I rarely wear mine with pants, because most of my pants are jeans and I don't like denim on denim, so I prefer my denim jackets cropped. If you wear the cropped skirt-length ones more, I'd keep either 5 or 6 as a dark denim option. (I would lean toward 6, because now that you mentioned the butt pockets on 5, I can't unsee them!). On the other hand, if you wear with pants a lot, I might keep 1 as well.

Definitely ditch the men's one!

Oh wow, I adore 4 and 6! Yes, I know, not a classic style jean jacket (maybe keep looking for that -- not crazy about the rest). But those two are stunning on you. Very polished. Different. WANT for myself.

#6 gives you a teeny tiny waist. Very flattering fit.

I'm with Mochi - I dislike 1 and 7, but I say keep the rest. So in answer to your question, five, LOL!

This is very helpful. I really thought I liked 1 best, but in the photo not so much. (and no love here) I had already decided no on the Men's.
Claire - I'm not sure about no collar, I think I've just never tried it on with something I liked so I will give them another try.
Diana - I only really wear the blazer one right now for work, but have an outfit planned this week with #4 so we'll see. It's way to hot to wear the others just yet, but I'm hoping to be ready for fall and would like one to wear with dresses and with pants (khakis, plaid pants, orange pants)
I'm going to try to style these to really tell but appreciate all the great comments.

I like #4 and 6. I think #2 could be nice. The most appropriate one is really dependent on what you want to pair it with.

I like #4 for a slightly more polished look with cleaner lines in the rest of the outfit. I like #6 for a stylish smart casual look. I think the fact that #2 is 3/4 sleeves could be a pro--I like the idea of scrunching shorter sleeves than longer sleeves myself (it stays up better for me cause there's less bulk). I don't think you should cut it into a vest, but that's my personal opinion.

#1, 5 and 7 are definite no's for me...

I love 2,3,4,5 and 6. The cropped shape in 5 will be terrific with dresses! I am not crazy about #1 or #7, petite you is just swimming in #7 although your expression is adorable!

Yeah, actually 3, 4, and 6 are the best to me. The other cropped jackets (2, 5)--maybe they could work, but at least with these outfits the proportions don't seem quite right.

I agree that #1 and #7 are the ones that should go for sure. I kind of like #5 and #6 though.

I'm amazed you don't have a white one...

I don't see a cropped white one or a cropped lightweight light wash one that you can wear with dresses, so maybe you don't have enough! My daughter wears dresses a lot, and her cropped faded jeans jacket gets constant use. I almost never wear dresses so don't have the need. I love my red jeans jacket, however!

I like #1, it seems boxy but I do like it and think it reads as very casual. #2 is my preferred length, love this one. #3 has a bit of a 70's vibe! #4 can you pack that one up and send to me;). Love the no collar Chanel look in denim. I think #5 would be excellent over dresses. The other two could go. For the record I have three denim jackets currently.

like shiny, if i had to pick an angel or two, i go for 4 and 6. combines waiste shaping and dresses up casual outfits while dressing down dressy ones.

Your little look in #7 made me smile and maybe it was also a look of saying you two were parting company. Either way, I most agree with Mochi in that I love all of your denims, from 2-6 and think they are keepers, Jj. You look great in the more fitted silhouettes, with or without a collar.

I have two.

1) LOFT blue denim "classic" ... I wouldn't call it cropped. It's just cheeky enough, it works over dresses.

2) LOFT white ... exactly same fit as #1, but in white.

I get equal wear out of these two, but not this summer. It's been so hot!! Haven't really had any need for either.

If I could get Jjsloane's #4 Chanel collarless version, I would! I'd wear that one to death. I'd pair it with dress slacks. It would be perfect for work, for me.

Oh, you should totally make one of these into a vest. Make sure you pick one with large enough arm holes to go over a boho blouse (says the woman who bought one with tight armholes, duh).

I Like #2 and #5 the best. #5 will work great with dresses, as it is more cropped, #3 is good as well. #1 and #7 are a tad big, jeje...

The only ones I'm not too keen about are #4 and #6. Something about the wash and the neckline together. I like collars in jean jackets... more cheeky, as Angie would say.

You can always cut the arms to make a vest, if you feel you have too many. Just cut along the arm opening and voila!

I did it with a couple of mine, quick and simple. No sewing required.

ETA: I just saw Claire's post... haha... same idea, one next to each other...

I like #2and #4 the best. They are totally different styles and both look great.

I hope it's not starting to get confusing with the variety of advice, but there's lots of ideas for you to consider!

Here's mine: It can get overwhelming trying to figure out which coat flatters an outfit, yet I can't get by with just one or two. There are lengths, sizes (over sleeveless tops vs over thin sweaters!), washes - yikes!! But even so. . .yes, get rid of 6 & 7.

I actually think #2 might work nicely over dresses - try it and see. If so, then get rid of #5 or make into vest.
I think #1 looks a little too large for you and I'd let that one go.
That would leave you with three great looking and fitting jackets (but MAKE yourself wear that cool #4 one!) and one cool vest

I would let #1 and 7 go. The rest are all great!
We all need more than one denim jacket for cooler and warmer weather, dresses as opposed to pants and dressier or more casual occasions.

As a fellow jean jacket person, I think you can style all but #1 and #7.
I love #5.
The darker, less traditional styles are a different look- not duplicates in my opinion.
I have jean jackets that are similar to some but I notice the difference.
Different lengths go with different style dresses, jeans, etc.
Too many is when you do not wear something.
I love jackets and wear them almost everyday.
I just bought another cropped jacket, (not denim) that I will be posting shortly.

I am in full agreement with all of Jean (gg)'s points!

I think you need a white one. Mine is getting a ton of wear. Hey, actually, maybe you can try my old one! I have it set aside in the swap meet box.
