Aquamarine

I need new snow/winter boots. I have a pair of L.L. Bean ones but they are slippery as heck on snow and ice and a pain to put on and take off (laces). Please share what you have and like for cold, snowy weather. Great traction and warmth are priorities. Zipper instead of laces would be a bonus.

Try REI and look for Vibram soles. Mine are Merrell But have laces. The soles are great.

I have a pair from several years ago from Bare Traps that has served me very well. I had the zipper replaced a couple of years ago, and they are still going strong.

I just bought a very nice pair of snow boots from Bos and Co. (Nordstrom) a couple of years ago. They were pricey, but they are very sturdy and should last a long time. They really crunch into the snow due to the deep treads, so they're not slippery. They are super warm.

I haven't tried Blondo's snow boots (I assume they make them), but I have worn their weatherproof booties, and they are very secure also. I would look for deep treads on the bottom.

These Merrill's. Super warm, great cushioning and arch support, waterproof, and good grip on icy surfaces. They have a zipper which helps enormously with on/off. Bought them in Jan of 2020 and Zappos still has them. They run big, so even when sized to fit my thick smartwool socks they are in the lower of the two sizes I generally wear for footwear. I wore them last January through early April for my daily outdoor walks (New England), even on days when it was dry with no snow. I've worn them walking in knee-deep snow and my feet were very happy. Worth every penny. I'd suggest you read the detailed description on Zappos to see all the materials, features, etc. It will give you a good list of what to look for even if these are not your chosen ones.

No boots are good on glare ice, I add a pair of yaktrax for that (mine are a diff brand).

Mine are the Vasque PowPow. Waterproof, really warm, and sturdy on ice. I like the higher shaft for ankle stability. I replaced my laces with bungees and that has made a huge difference. I like being able to adjust the tension on the shaft, and the bungees allow me to step in, and pull them tightly closed with the toggle. A little more effort than a zipper, but easier than laces.

Not super fashionable, but definitely functional!

Bungees are such a good idea. I have a hard time with taller shafts rubbing on ankle and leg bones.

Gigi...good idea to check Nordstrom. Blondo is a good brand to look at...never thought of them for “gear” type boots. I even have some Nordstrom Notes I could use.

Chris...there are very few sizes left in those Merrill’s, but I’ll assume other models are just as good. I had yaktrax years ago and always had trouble with them staying on my sole. Maybe it’s time to try them again.

I just ordered my second pair of the Columbia minx short boots. They have laces but I’ve never had to untie them. They are very light weight and fit a bit like a runner which I really like. I live in a cold snowy climate and these are pretty good. I also have a pair of yaktracks for treacherous conditions.
