I often feel that the more I plan and analyze and think about clothing, the more mistakes I make, and the less successful my plan is in execution. I'm not throwing in the towel entirely on my "new" fall cognac capsule, but it's not off to a rip-roaring start.
I started building a little collection of cognac pieces back in July, and put them all away for magical fall occasions. Yeah, sure, Lisa. I ordered this tie-dyed sweatshirt from BR a few months ago (safely tucked away for it's debut today), and while I was having nagging thoughts even then that I really don't like tie dye, it's everywhere, and I'm sick of looking at it, I ordered it anyway after fussing over this capsule I wanted to put tother - it made so much sense! Mistake number 1. It's a perfectly cute top and very comfy and wearable, but I still don't like tie-dyed things .
The cognac sneakers were another huge deliberation. They fit perfectly and are wonderfully comfortable and supportive, but they aren't very interesting . They were also $$$ but with a 60% off discount from my BF Olukai rep, I figured they were a smart purchase and a good sensible shoe and they were going to form the basis of my cognac capsule . I doubt I would not have bought them at regular price, but I did get pretty close. I hadn't seen any cognac sneakers anywhere. Half-mistake number 2. They are quite plain and even bordering on masculine, which I'm going to have to watch with future styling . I felt a bit orthopaedic in them today.
Then the vest. How could I go wrong here? It's cute, lightweight, inexpensive, and the perfect colour for my capsule! I don't love it over the sweatshirt because of the dropped shoulder situation , but it was the third piece I wanted today for some shopping and errand-running. Style fail #3. I felt masculine, too warm, and basically gross in this outfit today. I suppose more jewellery would have helped, but sometimes with masks, sunglasses etc to deal with, jewellery feels too much .
I have a few more pieces for this capsule, including a cream wool long shacket, a cream blouse, cream sweater and some better jeans . I own 2 pair of cognac booties, but both are feeling a little dated /too high of a heel now. Maybe they will look/feel more appealing when real boot weather hits here.
Solutions: in cooler weather, obviously a silky scarf , a print blouse, a higher neck sweater , better jewellery , maybe a boot with a bit of heel....all would go a long way toward making these pieces work better. I think though that the sweatshirt will be delegated to very basic grocery-store runs and around the house wear. The jeans I don't even want to talk about, another huge fail, and the sneakers will be better with a more feminine blouse/coat combo. Oh well. Capsule #2 is an olive one, and almost complete. Ready to debut that one soon - hopefully with better results.
