I had a quick look at Smythe jackets after work.

I love the camel version to the front but I find the back slightly odd. Is this detailing signature to their style?

I also liked the red but I am not sure how it will look with skirts and dresses rather than trousers. What I didn’t like about the red was how it was at the shoulders - there seemed to be an indent from the pressing. What do you think.

Then what I wore to work with trainers for the commute (washed every weekend so always look neat!). Thrifted linen jacket, A McQueen scarf and trousers (rare for me but I like them in high summer as it means I don’t need to wear tights). New Furla bag is pretty similar in colour to red jacket.

I would welcome your thoughts!

I like the red a lot, and the bag! Not sure about the beige jacket. I think if the shape in back wasn't as squared I'd like it more.

You look beautiful from the front. I am afraid I would have to stare at the weird cutout in back though.

I am nodding with you on the camel colour. The back detail is too strange isn’t it - not for me.

Yeah, the back design feature on the camel doesn't make any sense and is a jarring view. In menswear, they call the indentation below the shoulder "shoulder divots" and considered a sign of poor fit.

I agree that the camel is lovely from the front but what is that back about?It s like a window show casing one s bottom,very odd.The red looks good on you but a blazer has to be versatile so if it won’t work with all your work clothes that’s no good.The new red bag is gorgeous!

I actually have the Smythe camel blazer (Duchess I think they call it-after Kate?). I rather like the cutout and find it adds interest. True, it does focus on the derrière but I’m ok with that! I do think fit is hard to determine while trying to take pictures but both colors are lovely on you!

The shade of toffee is sublime on you, Jane. WOW. Sleeves are a little long though.

Funny Yes, the Duchess cut has that centre back raised hem, and I thought I was the only Smythe lover in North America who didn't like it. I think it's weird, full stop,and is a design feature I cannot wrap my head around. I've tried the Duchess on time and time again and just cannot .

It's difficult to judge the fit of the red with your arms extended. I can't say I love it really, the style combined with the color seems a little harsh.You might like a woven pattern with red better?

The first jacket is utterly bizarre. I could be more tactful but honestly, I feel that's a real no.

Your work outfit looks great, I love the red jacket, the cut out would disturb me as the unusual design feature seems to point an arrow to your bum, which I find just weird (nothing to do with how said area looks ).

Great fit on these jackets, but I don’t like the back of the Duchess jacket either, it is an unusual design. Great colours on you.

I can’t help laughing at Suntigers comment and it distracted me from what I was going to say.

That is an odd cut and I bet there is a reason. I doubt that is only for style. It is probably cut like that so the jacket lays right when sitting on a horse or something.......or maybe so the back bottom doesn’t get wrinkled when you sit because there is none!

I like both - but I know Smythe are pricey so you need to LOVE them.

I like the window but I can see how you might not want it..... I like the red jacket and have a similar style (double breasted with gold buttons) that I have really enjoyed wearing.

Jane, both colours are fantastic on you.

I love the fit of the toffee in front but agree that the back detail is a bit distracting. I think the way it could/would work well is with a skirt. It gives you a bit of room for a flare at the back without interfering with the jacket itself. A bit like a cutaway in practical effect, as if you were seated on a horse, you know?

The red looks as if the shoulder fit/ padding is "off" for your frame is all. But keep trying the styles. OH my goodness, the quality just oozes out and suits you SO well.

Sal, wise words, they are pricey and I would need to love them. The funny thing is on the red the sleeves seem quite wide to me.

Thank you Suz. I think the thing I have learnt here is that both the red / pink warm tone is good on me as is the darker camel. So that is good to know! Thank you on the outfit.

The more I look at it the more I actually like the Duchess. With a skirt (which you typically wear at work) it would be brilliant.

Jane, the camel colour is very flattering to your colouring. I like the cut of the Smythe Duchess blazers. I have tried that blazer on in burgundy and liked it. If they had it in camel or olive I would have bought it.
You have a very pretty face and gorgeous figure. I think the cut out in the back might bring attention to one's bottom if wearing pants/jeans. Something to consider.
Would you wear the blazer closed? It does change the look if you unbutton the blazer.
Of course, you have to be comfortable with the look.

SF - I think the Duchess is available in olive (their colour name is Army) . I'm sure I just tried it on a few weeks ago. It has white lining though - as in stark white- which I didn't like. $695 Cdn - eek.

Perhaps we could see a few additional shots of the red. I think I love that one but it’s hard to tell for sure without seeing more of it.

Thanks for letting me know Lisap about the olive. I don't think I want stark white lining.

The white lining really cheapened the look to my eye. And also limited what one would wear it with.
