I think the dress I will wear to an upcoming wedding would look better if I wore a smoothing item under it. This is new territory for me; I am unable to endure any pressure on my abdomen so Spanx type items were always a no go. I understand this type of item has evolved though and wondering if you have any suggestions for what to wear under my mesh covered, lightly clingy dress.
eta: also what color shoes for a midnight blue dress? Thanks!!

You are very slim. Size up in shapers for a smooth fit. I wear an xs or small in most things but like a large in shapers. For the dress try a smoothing stretchy slip. Midnight blue dress, try black or a metallic or nude- ffor- you shoe. You could go with a color if you repeat it will an accessory, like pink or deep red.

i have a drawer full of various undergarments due to wearing so many different types of dresses. If you are sensitive in the stomach area and don't need/want compression I would do a slip. It might not even have Sometimes a slip can be just enough to make a dress less clingy. If the fabric is thin I'd go for a full slip vs. 1/2 otherwise you run the risk of seeing the waistband.

I prefer the bike shorts to the other styles as they seem the most likely to not show any lines. Warning about these - if they aren't the right size/length they can really cut into your shoulders/pull you down, so I only buy ones with adjustable straps now.

Midnight blue dress - silver shoes, gunmetal, bronze or gold . Simply put - metallics. Or fun colors like magenta, citron, teal.
No shape wear for me - same problem .

A slip, or slip shorts could work.

That said, in the spirit of brainstorming, can you wear a dress that stands away from your abdomen - a boxier and straighter cut? Then there is no need for shape wear!

Thank you Angie for commenting! I have had a heck of a time trying to find a dress (with sleeves) for this event and I am pretty happy with this dress. I’m just trying to smooth out any bumps and thinking a little more insulation might be a good thing.

I’ve been intrigued by the concept of slip shorts since the recent thread about it but am still a little out off by my one miserable experience with Spanx a decade or two ago.

If anyone has specific brands/items that aren’t compression at all I’m all ears!

If you are not after compression or slimming — just smoothing — I have a Commando full slip that is helpful in those situations. It’s fitted and stretchy but not tight and squeezy — but substantial enough to hide VPL and the like. Of course it depends on what exactly the issue is that you’re trying to smooth. I have pretty much abandoned any style that requires shapewear.

I like Jockey Skimmies slip shorts - no compression. They also make a full bodysuit style, though I've never tried it.

Sometimes things with elastic waists like pantyhose or half slips make issues even worse — the segmented worm look. LOL This kind of slip helps eliminate that.
