Hi Everyone

So I finally joined the 21st century and have a Motorola smart phone. I know crazy I am only getting one now but I really have not had a huge need in my retired life. So now you will get to see more WIW's if and when I actually wear an outfit worthy of posting or one that needs input. Winter dressing in my world consists of turtlenecks/pants/jackets, ie. very boring.

With regard to the phone it did come with a silicone cover for the back but what about the screen. I am thinking I need some type of hard cover or case. What do you guys use? I do not use my phone often so it does not need to be easy to get to at high speed. I saw some wallet-type case that seemed quite nice...

I use a leather cover, lilac with a pretty self-pattern. Have had it for around one year, and it is still nice.

Had a black cover earlier, but don't want black ever again. Too difficult to find in my purse and other places.

I have a case that is also my wallet, so I have everything I need in one spot. Very handy for me. I also have a cover on the face that is more to reduce glare and fingerprints than to protect it. I have dropped my phone and not broken the face - not sure if I am just lucky? It tends to drop more on the corners.

I have an iPhone with a blush pink silicone cover for the back only. No need to cover the screen, IMO. It's in my bag protected. Silicone is by far my non-slip preference! FWIW

I do what Angie does -- the way the back cover's designed it prevents the screen from touching the floor if it lands face down. So it gets smudged from fingers but not scratched. I keep the phone in my bag (or more rarely, pocket) most of the time.

Yay for team Motorola!! We are small but mighty (in NA at least ... I think it's the leading brand elsewhere).

I have a simple and not overly aesthetic case with a screen protector that I purchased from Amazon. It's basic black and survives every idiotic drop I do with my phone Definitely not super-fashionable but if you are anything like me in terms of phone clumsiness, it saves a lot of money on repairs ha (this is from the woman that dropped her phone and then stepped on it during the retrieval process!!)

I am an absolute klutz and got an OtterBox rubber case for my phone. Comes with a thin plastic screen cover, I’ve dropped my phone many times with no damage. The case is relatively bulky, and non-stylish, but they do offer slimmer cases, some with designs.

I have used a glass screen cover for years. It protected my phone from a smash once; I was very happy to have it. If the phone falls, the glass cover breaks, not the phone's screen.

I have a clear hard cover with rounded corners that I bought from Amazon for the back only—my phone is butter yellow, so I like that to show. I don’t use a screen protector. I drop my poor phone with some regularity, but the cover protects it when it lands on its face. I normally carry it in my purse or in a pants or coat pocket if I’m not using a purse.

What Lesley said. Also what Angie said about non-slip materials. It helps avoid dropping the thing.

I can reccomend an otter box too. They are indestructible. However I have noticed tiny scratches on the screen protector from use and so am looking into a " wallet" as well just because I am picky about scratches. although I will only use it for my phone and keep other stuff seperate.

I used to have a case that covered the screen - opened like a book. After my one phone started typing by itself, I really needed that. But there are some drawbacks. The cover got in the way when taking pictures and I couldn’t put a PopSocket on it. So I’m back to the open face case; but drop rated. They say the ghost typing doesn’t happen anymore.

I resisted getting a smartphone until those were the only ones being sold with internet (which I also didn't need, but then I started travelling solo for months - think all my family & friends would have killed me if I had hopped on a plane to Brazil without an internet phone lol, but anyway...) I'm Team Sony.

Those wallet covers that fold *over* the screen can be useful, but are also prone to scratching the screen if you don't also have a clear protector on the screen itself (especially if you're putting cards in the slots facing the screen).

A wallet that folds the other way (*behind* the screen) avoids the scratching issue but otherwise can be a little bulky to handle (IMO the magnet usually weakens over time, so the cover starts flopping about at the most inopportune times - usually when you're attempting to take a photo, lol). You may have seen in my selfies that I've added a cardholder and a ring onto the *back* of my phone - I find this to be a more compact alternative.

I think that a back cover (like you have) with a screen protector added could work for you. Otherwise, there are also 'wallet' type covers that fold over the screen but are *clear* in that part (so you can still see your phone screen). May be useful for checking the time on your phone without having to open it up (+ bonus: not adding your cards wallet to your phone case will make it easier to not use your phone as often).

PS - Even if you get a case you don't like you can always switch it out for another later. In fact I recommend you do periodically, just to clean your phone (dust etc can get trapped between the case & the phone over time).

I have tried a few options over the years but am loving my hard cover from Casetify. I customised it and love it!!

I like my Otterbox case. It's not an elegant option, but it's pretty tough. I like it because I carry my phone with me when I go for bike rides, and I like knowing that it's fairly well protected should I drop it while digging around in my handlebar bag or something during a ride.

I found cases for phones bulky and hard to use. I now use no case at all and have gone for years without a case. I found the phone now is smaller and more light weight. I got a bright pink one so it is easy to find. The phone now fits in a pocket or small bag. It functions as my glucose meter so is always with me. I still find an app that finds the phone helpful.
