Slouchy skinnies: how to buy?

So, I'm much taken by this whole slouchy skinny thing. I'm thinking it might be the perfect compromise between le BF and the legging-type jeans we've all been wearing for so long. In short, a marriage made in heaven!

I already own one pair of slouchy skinnies. But they are distressed and not really suitable to all occasions.

So I am wondering how to buy them. Angie had a pair that were curvy fit and sized up. Would that be a good route to try? Or have others just looked for their fave skinnies and sized up? I am wondering how to do this.

What have you done, if you have tried the look?

Let's see your slouchy skinnies, Suz. I can't remember them

(Btw, slouchy means that the crotch drop has dropped - are your skinnies really slouchy - or are they baggy with the crotch point in the right place?).

I sized up two sizes on a curvy fit - and I am not curvy. The curvy fit meant that the waistband was more tailored to start off with, which helped when you go up a few sizes. I didn't have a huge amount of bunching when I belted the look.

Okay, I think my size 2 Gap BF jeans sort of qualify for this - they are slouchy but fitted at the same time. Because of the long rise they still have the dropped crotch look.

I'm looking for a pair of slouchy skinny trousers to wear like Angie's post today.

I'll experiment with you!

Oh, I also think that for me not having hips helps - everything naturally tends to slide down and be slouchy anyway.

Suz, did you want to try the ON jeans Texstyle sent me? They are 6, so might work for what you're trying.

I consider two of my skinnies to be slouchy even though there is no or minimal crotch point drop. (The concept of baggy skinny is really confusing!) I bought them in my regular size because they were supposed to have a skinny, yet slouchy legged look.

Angie, these are my skinny boyfriend jeans. They're Heritage slouchy skinnies from a couple of years ago from Banana Republic.

It might not look like it here, but the crotch point is actually a bit dropped. Not to the same extent as in my Gap BF jeans, but it naturally falls about an inch lower than my crotch. I don't have to wear a belt to keep them on...but if I don't wear a belt, they fall lower and lower. The bum and thighs are looser in the back than on regular skinnies. But they narrow down a lot past the knees. I can wear these unrolled, too.

Mo...that is sweet of you to offer! Let's see what we learn in this conversation. I should probably try them on at ON before having you send them, to save the postage in case they don't fit!

So my Vince skinny jeans are actually technically slouchy skinnies that I sized DOWN on to get a regular skinny jean fit, the reason being that they had a decently high rise which at the time was very hard to find. I now wish I had bought a pair in my regular size too. Higher rise skinnies seem to be easier to find these days, so I think that might be a good place to start. You have to have enough rise to let them slouch while still remaining decent. I was thinking I might try the Kut from the Kloth skinnies, which fit me decently (so, probably a "curvy fit") with a mid-high rise and also run really big, so I suspect my normal size would actually be a slouchy fit on me.

Diana, that's a pretty good theory, I think. My Kut from the Kloth white skinnies fit me quite snugly when I bought them and in fact a few people thought I should size up on them. But they actually fit pretty well, and I find they stretch out and on the second wear are most definitely "slouchy." To the point where I need a belt. Hmmm. I wonder if the other colours fit the same way?

My KUT jeans do not bag out AT ALL. How weird is that, Suz?

I LOVE those BR jeans on you, and now I remember them! So size up two sizes on the next pair of skinnies.

Scarlet, my definition of slouchy is definitely "dropped crotch point" with lots of room around the seat and thighs. Your skinnies, if the crotch point is in the right place, would be baggy skinnies in my mind.

I remember you told me your Kut skinnies don't bag on you. I don't know why mine do; another mystery is this: my Long and Leans (gap) do NOT bag on me, but they bagged so much on Shannon that she had to donate them!

I don't mind the slight bag on my Kuts; they actually feel really nice and since I'm not a rear-view fanatic, I just wear them and enjoy them. So far I have only had compliments on them, so I figure they can't be all that bad!

In fact, for the fit, I like my Kuts better than any other jean I own, which was one reason I was tempted to dye them; I do enjoy having white jeans now, but I would get a lot more wear from a darker colour. And since I enjoy wearing those, I figured it might be a good thing to do. (But I'm keeping them white).

I cannot wait to see you experiment with this, Suz! I went one size up in J. Crew Matchsticks for kind of a slouchy skinny effect. Four sizes up in Paige, though those run small on me and the effect is exactly like the Matchsticks. I guess it was all trial and error for me, too.

Krish - I'm not sure if Gaps will work for me or not, but I'll certainly try them on. My BF jeans are from Gap, and I had a pair of skinnies from them last year as well. I wore them a lot but ended up falling and ruining the knee, so I cut them off into shorts for summer.

Me too, my BF are from there and it works brilliantly. But I suspect that achieving the slouchy skinny will require a step up in make (and in price!). Hope I'm wrong. I have a few pairs of Gap skinnies but they are not so glamorous.

Suz, I don't know if my new jeans qualify as slouchy skinnies, but in my experimentation, I just went up a couple of sizes in a brand I don't know at all. I usually wear a 4 or 6 and bought an 8. I tried on a 10 and while I don't overly worry about the rear view, the 10s were just too baggy in the seat for me.
