After much searching and many agonizing posts—I’m truly grateful for all the people who commented and helped me decide—about sandals this summer, this perfect pair happened along recently. Unlike the Eccos, my heel stays on them, and being Pikolinos, they are built to last much better than the white sandals, which I enjoy wearing but don’t expect to have more than a couple seasons. I will not store them just outside our door, like the Pikos that got knicked. They fit perfectly, required zero breaking in, the white, navy, and cognac red straps mean they go with most of my things, and, best of all, I don’t have to unbuckle them but they stay on my feet securely. Plus they were on sale for about 30% off.

I’m wearing them here in almost-70-degree temps, with a suede jacket. Our weather recently took a bizarre turn, and August suddenly feels like October. People immediately jumped into their jeans and jackets, as if they’d been waiting for it. I feel differently and want the summer to hang onnnnnnn. Best I can hope for is a warm fall. Temps are now hovering around 60, so I’ve given in and am wearing pants and my new oxfords, which are also slip-ons. That seems to be my latest thing—shoes I don’t have to fasten.

Has the weather taken an unexpected turn where you are? How are you dealing with it?
