Slip advice?

Hi ladies,
My husband and I had a belated anniversary getaway last weekend, complete with shopping! I picked up this pretty dress in "lava" http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....=421578002, and one of the things that attracted me to it was that it is flattering on me sans shapewear - perfect for warm summer days/evenings. After wearing it, I felt I could use just a tad more smoothing, but don't want the heat of skin-tight Spanx. Do any of you have a favorite slim slip? I should add that the Spanx I own are bike short length, and I haven't tried a shapewear slip. I'd be curious to know whether anyone has tried both and finds a slip cooler or not. If so, I'm not against Spanx or the like if a slip is cooler than my current shorts.

No personal knowledge here, but when I went searching, a couple of sites recommended a brand called Body Wrap. They apparently have a line of lighter-weight, hot weather shapewear. Also, I found this article: http://main.stylelist.com/2010.....shapewear/

I found that wearing light-weight, silky undergarments often gives a nice smooth look without resorting to shape wear. I also have a silky "granny" pant with a bit of lycra in it that works well under my slim knitwear skirts. Not my prettiest undergarment, but it works.

Whenever possible, I buy skirts and dresses that are lined. I hate shapewear.

I would look for stretchy silk since the silk will still breathe. Pretty dress!

I got a nice slip from the GAP. It's not exactly shapewear but it smooths me out a little under my knit dresses.

I still see those nylon tricot slips in stores, especially places like Kohl's and Sears. They may be old-fashioned but they do work really well especially under something that clings just that little bit too much.

I have a slip from Only hearts, that I bought online. It comes is white and black, maybe nude? and is full length with spaghetti straps, but not really long, so that I didn't have to cut it shorter. It is not shapewear, just a slip!

I think a silky slip should do the trick. That's a lovely dress.

Thanks for the input, ladies. The dress actually fits me more closely than the model; it's more body-conscious. I actually tried a standard silky slip I had with me, but because it wasn't clingy itself, it was bunched up by the fitted nature of the dress. It looks like there are some great ideas!
