Slimming trousers (rant)

I hate them. And they are invading even my favorite brands of jeans. Talbots, Ralph Lauren, etc.

I am sorry, but I had a baby. Those soft baby bits haven't really gone away since her birth, much as I would like them to. (And she is worth every stretch mark, every bump, and every sag!)

And your slimming jeans are uncomfortable and, well, frankly, just smoosh those soft baby bits below your stupid slimming panel, even if I size 2 sizes up. I don't need a flat tummy. Heaven knows as a pear I gave up on that some time ago. What I need are comfortable jeans that fit.

*sigh* Back went the RL jeans today. I didn't notice they were "slimming" jeans until they arrived. Maybe the baby boot Kuts will be better. And I have learned Kohls sells Gloria Vanderbuilt jeans.

I know! It's super annoying. I recently ordered a black wrap dress that turned out to be slimming (I didn't realize what that meant in the product description). It was very uncomfortable as well and got sent back. I also hate control top tights - I find them very uncomfortable.

This kind of goes along with Angie's post on aging. Good for you for sending them back! We don't need to spend our days miserable and uncomfortable just to try to meet society's standards.

I accidentally grabbed a "slenderizing" bathing suit and was half-way in when I realized that even if I was able to wrangle the thing on, I'd be compressed to within a inch of my life. Then my jaw dropped to the floor when the salesperson said it was one of their best selling suits. Ouch!

Thistle -- I so feel you here! Kuts are stretchier and comfortable, as long as they're small enough in the waist for you. I'm not a pear, but I find them roomier in the waist than in the "buthigh." If they don't work, the GV Amanda jeans might. Also, Bandolino Blu makes the "Mandi" jean. My red jeans are this brand. You can find these at Macy's and Carson's. They're fairly generous in size.

I can't stand that "compression" feeling. Control top tights drive me around the bend and I cannot seem to find any regular ones anymore. Also, they are getting more controlling if that is possible.

Thistle, have you tried Eddie Bauer curvy/semi-curvy jeans? I've been very happy with their semi-curvy, they fit my waist and hips and are straight legs but not squeezing me to death.

Walmart now sells a Gloria Vanderbilt version. I wear GV jeans as they fit me best but haven't seen these in real life.

Ugh, this happens to me too! I bought a dress with a "slimming panel" and it was SO UNCOMFORTABLE - and it made me look more bumpy than I actually am!! I sent it right back too!

I agree. When I was at my heavier size, I really disliked stretch jeans, I mean the ones with a LOT of spandex in them, that were supposed to make everything smoother. They were uncomfortable and didn't make that much difference anyway. I mean, I was fat, I'm pretty sure a little spandex was not gonna make me look like I'd suddenly lost fifty pounds.

Thistle, Kuts do not fit me because they are not small enough in the waist when they fit my hips. I hope they fit you better. I have never seen slimming Ralph Laurens.

OMG, I totally relate. Cannot stand this either. Yes maybe I look slimmer but if I'm grimacing and uncomfortable I won't look great. We liberated ourselves from girdles long ago. Please stop edging us back to them again.

NYDJ: my stomach is flat as a pancake, but all the fat is now pushed up over my waistband, and weirdly, oddly, below my panty line. What is up with that?

Spanx: are not sized for petites, so they suck me in in all the wrong places, also leaving unsightly bulges where they aren't supposed to be. Is that thigh or hip flesh? We shall call it THIP. And for the record, I have no hips to speak of, unless I am wearing slimmers, then I have something that is not hip... it's ... THIP... or reverse muffin top? It is really most bizarre.

Slimming bathing suits: you've GOT to be kidding me. Now the unsightly bulges are popping out in fleshy tones for all the world to see. And, I am on a beach. Beach is relaxation time. Screw that! I want a suit to feel like sweat pants. Ruching, you are my friend. I love ruching. Someone needs to create a fashionable "boyfriend" version of a bathing suit that is comfy, forgivingly loose, baggy, and trendy. I would so wear it.

Well this thread is very affirming. I have tried all sorts of spanx like creatures and my experience has been the same as Shiny's et al. Do those things work on anyone?

I confess, I've never tried a "slimming" garment, except for exact same swimsuit fiasco Gaylene mentions. I gamely forged ahead, working up a sweat to get the darn suit on, and then laughed at how ridiculously it sucked in my body -- only to smoosh all my extra flesh out below the leg opening, adding even more thigh pudge than I already have. No. Thank. You.

I think this is some sort of misguided marketing. Designers, please just make clothes that skim our bodies and fit properly. That negates the need for "slimming" technology.

Sooo good to know I am not alone. I tried NYDJ, and Shiny completely reaffirms my experience. I have come across it a few other times, but was horrified when I went to Talbots this past weekend and all they had were slimming jeans. Ugh. I told the sales lady I would buy spanx if I wanted to be "slimmed".

The only Ralph Lauren jeans at Nordies are the slimming ones. Bah.

I have some Gloria Vanderbilt and Lee jeans on the way :). Yeah, not exactly the Lucky or Jag I sent back. But if they fit look good and are comfortable . . .
