Slightly OT: Bronzer?

I have fair skin with pink overtones - and now that it's almost summer, I'd love to get in on some bronzer action. Most of the time when I try one, it either looks a bit brown or orange on me.

Can anyone recommend a good one for fair skin? One that doesn't have too much shimmer? (At my age I don't really need to look like a sparkly princess.)

I like NARS and/or Smashbox. I do better finding the right color for my skin by going to the makeup counters at the department store. Those ladies know how to give you the right bronzer; I've bought it that way for two summers now and I've not been disappointed.

Hi Tarzy,

Last March I had a gala to go to and my skin was very pale and pasty after being under wraps all winter. The sales ladies at Nordstroms all gathered around me in a dressing room and applied MAC Silk Sheen Leg Spray. It's not a self tanner so you aren't applying chemicals that will change your skin's composition. Rather it is a bronzer or makeup that washes off at night.

It was amazing! It gave my legs and arms a sun-kissed, natural look. Although the package says to spray on, they sprayed a small amount in the palms of their hands and applied it with a very soft application brush. You can also apply it with your hands.

I love Nordies! Try the MAC counter and see what they have.

Bronzer for body? I like the gradual tan kind as they don't look too fake.
Aveeno is nice and not as smelly as others.
There is also this roll on stick from The Body Shop that you just sort of move up and down legs and rub in - hard to describe but it works so easily for fast fake bronze.

For face? I like Laura Mercier Matte Light. No shimmer for me either.

Bobbi Brown used to be my go-to bronzer, but I have now refrained from bronzing for many years. However, if I see a photo of you looking super-glam and all bronzed, I am sure I'll be tempted to join in!

Laura - I'm not really after super-glam, just a nice summery glow. I did a little research and found something from Physician's Formula that is recommended for fair skin and is not shimmery. I'll give that a try and see how it looks.

I have heard Smashbox is super... I have just gotten used to getting a powder darker that my skin and used that because everthing was so shimmery and so ageing on me.

I think there is a make-up artist on this forum somewhere, she may speak up with some insider secrets.:)

MAC has a good bronzer called Golden it is light and golden and does not look orange. Also Nars laguna is nice.

I use 1 by clinique not sure what it's called but it has several colours and has a molded flower in the powder.
